Richmond hires new Chief of Police

The Town of Richmond announced the hiring of Alan Buck to succeed retiring Richmond Police Chief William “Joe” Miller. Buck retired from the Vermont State Police as a Captain in 2009 and has remained active in the State Police auxiliary. Chief Buck will begin work in Richmond on June 27 and Miller will stay on for a period to ensure a smooth transition.

“We are pleased to welcome Alan Buck to Richmond,” said Selectboard Chair Jon Kart. “Joe Miller is a tough act to follow, but we are confident that our search committee process has produced a worthy successor.”

Preston Smith to be inducted into Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame

Preston Leete Smith, who as a 26-year-old envisioned a Vermont ski resort that included first of its kind snowmaking, surface grooming and learn to ski programs, will be inducted into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum (VSSM) Hall of Fame this fall in recognition of his leadership to make those visions realities. Smith founded and built Killington into one of North America's leading resorts and eventually acquired additional resorts as part of S-K-I, Ltd., a publically traded company. Joining Smith for induction will be Greg McClallen, Karen Huntoon Miller and John Morton.

Doubletree promotes Smith to Chief Engineer

Rick Milliken, General Manager of the Doubletree by Hilton Burlington has announced the promotion of Tom Smith to Chief Engineer. He is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s facilities including the HVAC system, pool and spa, staff scheduling and supervision, and safety systems throughout the property and Trader Duke’s Restaurant.

Originally from Chicago, IL, where he attended North Park University, he joined the hotel in 2005 as an Engineer. He is a volunteer with the Jericho Foodshelf.

Chelsea Green Publishing Hires Former Seventh Generation Executive Dave Rapaport

Chelsea Green Publishing today announced the appointment of Dave Rapaport as Associate Publisher and Chief Operating Officer, effective July 1.

The company’s leadership unanimously supported Mr. Rapaport’s appointment.
