Vermont Arts Council awards $33k in grants

The Vermont Arts Council is pleased to announce its Creation Grant recipients for Fiscal Year 2013. A total of $33,000 will be awarded to 11 Vermont artists in seven counties, each of whom will receive $3,000 to support new work. A panel with experience in curating, producing and creating art selected the following grantees from a pool of over 100 applicants:

Lyndon State College graphic designer major wins VT/NH marketing group scholarship

Morgan Diltz of Moultonborough, N.H., a graphic design major/marketing minor at Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vt., has received the VT/NH Marketing Group’s annual scholarship. The $500 award was presented to Diltz at the not-for-profit organization’s annual summer conference, which she was invited to attend for free as part

of the scholarship.

Gary L Morris, DDS in Morrisville and Waterbury welcomes new dentist

Stephanie J. Nelms, DMD has joined the offices of Gary L Morris, DDS on October 1.

Dr. Nelms earned a B.S. in Nutrition from the University of Vermont and a D.M.D. from Tufts University in Boston, MA. She is originally from Barre, VT and graduated from Spaulding High School. Dr. Nelms practiced in Fort Collins, CO prior to joining Waterbury Family Dentistry.

She is a member of the American Dental Association and the Vermont State Dental Society.

Dr. Nelms will be seeing patients in both locations:

Jeremy Gibbons, Director of Admissions at Southern Vermont College, has been selected President-elect of the Consortium of Vermont Colleges (CVC), which is a two-year voluntary appointment. CVC comprises of admissions representatives from Vermont Higher Education Council member institutions. CVC’s mission is to collaborate in promoting the wealth and diversity of higher education opportunities in Vermont and to highlight the attractiveness of the state of Vermont as an ideal setting for a college experience.

St Michael’s professor & 3 other scientists awarded NSF and NASA grants to explore galaxies in distant space

Dr. John O’Meara, Saint Michael's College associate professor of physics, is part of two teams of scientists that together have been awarded close to $1 million in research funds from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and from NASA to study, in ever-greater depth, how galaxies are formed in outer space.

“The student connection is pretty strong,” Professor O’Meara said. “I anticipate involving students in the data analysis which is extensive for both programs.”

Each year, the Bank's "Ten Den" employee recognition team hosts a dinner to celebrate employees' tenure milestones with Northfield Savings Bank and honor them for their important contributions to customers and community. Champlain Housing Trust purchases South Meadow Apartments in Burlington

The Champlain Housing Trust has purchased South Meadow Apartments in Burlington’s south end for $19 million. Built 25 years ago, South Meadow is home to 148 apartments, including 40 affordable ones. Over the last thirty years, no residential property in Chittenden County has had a higher sale price, and only four have been higher in the State of Vermont.
