Catherine McKeen appointed Director of Center for Teaching and Learning at Southern Vermont College

Catherine McKeen has joined the staff at Southern Vermont College (SVC) as the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). McKeen will oversee the CTL, which is funded in part by a federal TRiO grant. The TRiO program, which traces its genesis to the 1964 Educational Opportunity Act, is designed to provide educational access and academic support services for first-generation, lower-income students, and students with documented learning disabilities.

Marketing firm hires social media community manager

Kelliher Samets Volk (KSV), a Burlington-based marketing firm with offices in Boston and New York, welcomes Ben Bonaccio to its marketing team as a social media community manager.

Bonaccio joins KSV after working with Burlington Telecom, where he spearheaded social media and marketing efforts as the principal graphic design coordinator. Prior to his position with the City, Bonaccio worked for Apple Specialist and Reseller Small Dog Electronics as social community manager and web content specialist. Bonaccio, a Vermont native, graduated with a B.S. from the University of Vermont.

Commissioner appoints three students to Harassment, Hazing and Bullying Prevention Advisory Council

Education Commissioner Armando Vilaseca recently appointed three additional student representatives to the Harassment, Hazing, and Bullying Prevention Advisory Council. Lexie Federhen, Justin Lambert, and Leah Soule bring diverse backgrounds, personal experiences with bullying, and unique perspectives to the council.

“One of the top priorities for the council is to develop student leadership programs that support anti-bullying,” said Commissioner Vilaseca. “We want to ensure that our schools are safe, and hearing directly from the students is the best way to make that happen.”

Antonio Pomerleau selected 2012 Citizen of the Year by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce

Antonio Pomerleau, Chairman and Founder of Pomerleau Real Estate, has been selected as the 2012 Citizen of the Year by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. Pomerleau’s achievements will be toasted at a celebration on November 27, 2012 at the Hilton Burlington Hotel.

The prestigious Citizen of the Year Award, now in its 49th year, highlights the work of a Vermonter who has bettered the state through self-sacrifice, service and volunteerism.

Vermont Symphony Orchestra honors board members and volunteers

Four members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Governing Board of Directors were honored at the recent VSO Association’s Annual Meeting. Directors stepping down from the Board include Sylvia Robison of Burlington; John Tampas of Colchester; Edwin Colodny of Burlington; and Gaetano Vicinelli of Stowe. These four directors represent 37 years of combined service.
