Governor Shumlin appoints Colin Ryan to Vermont Commission on Women

Gov. Peter Shumlin has appointed Colin Ryan of Burlington to the Vermont Commission on Women (VCW).

Established in 1964, VCW is a non-partisan state government commission advancing rights and opportunities for women and girls. Sixteen volunteer commissioners and representatives from twenty-five organizations concerned with women’s issues guide VCW’s public education, coalition building, and advocacy efforts. Commissioners serve four-year terms and are appointed by the Governor, Senate and House leadership, and the Republican and Democratic parties.

Brattleboro Retreat’s 10th annual golf tournament raises $42K to benefit kids

It was a beautiful day as more than 100 golfers played at the Brattleboro Country Club on Wednesday, August 5th, helping make the Brattleboro Retreat’s 10th Annual Golf Tournament a record-setting success.

With fundraising revenue marking an all-time high in the tournament’s history, the event netted over $42,000 for the Brattleboro Retreat’s programs for children.

Vermont Adaptive appoints new staff members; former Vermont Adaptive program coordinator Maggie Burke named managing director

Erin Fernandez, executive director of Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, recently announced the addition of four new staff members to the team. Maggie Burke, a former Vermont Adaptive program coordinator, has been named the new managing director. Kelly Walsh will take the helm as the northern program coordinator responsible for programs in Chittenden County and at Bolton Valley Ski Area. Megann O’Malley is the organization’s inaugural C.O.R.E. Connections program coordinator, and Anne Koch has been named project and services assistant.

The City of Newport has a New City Manager - Laura Dolgin has been named Newport City Manager. NVDA looks forward to continuing its good working relationship with the City and with Ms. Dolgin.

AllEarth Renewables hires Anthony Lauzon as lead electronics technician

AllEarth Renewables, the award winning Vermont solar tracker manufacturer, has announced the hiring of Anthony Lauzon as its Lead Electronics Technician.

Lauzon, of Burlington, was a technician in the United States Air Force and has a Bachelors of Arts in literature from Castleton State College and a Bachelor's of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Vermont.

Richard Flood recipient of NAIFA-VT’s BH Zais Award

recently at the NAIFA-VT Annual State Conference which was held at the Sheraton, South Burlington. Established in 1971 in honor of past NAIFA-VT Chapter President, Bernard H. Zais, the award represents the highest recognition the Association can bestow on one of its members.

The award salutes the member who, over a period of time, has made distinguished and memorable contributions to society, to the community, and to the life insurance profession. Any member of the Association may make nominations; the recipient is chosen by committee.

Linda Penn named Employee of the Month at Mt Ascutney Hospital and Health Center

Linda Penn has been selected as employee of the month at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center.

Penn, a member of the Hospital’s Housekeeping Services Department since 2001, was recognized for her performance excellence in promoting the highest standards of cleanliness.

“Linda understands the value and importance of her work in implementing critical infection control standards, especially in the busy Emergency Department,“ says supervisor Pat Titus. “She is a hard-working and dedicated employee, and is always committed to doing the best job she can.”
