GMCR appoints vice president

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc, (NASDAQ:GMCR) announced the appointment of Howard Malovany as its vice president, corporate general counsel and secretary. Malovany joins GMCR with over 30 years experience providing corporate legal counsel, including 14 years with Wm Wrigley Jr. Company, where he most recently served as the senior vice president, secretary and general counsel. He brings valuable legal insight and guidance to GMCR.

Doctor joins MountainView Urology group

Dr Russell Sarver recently welcomed Dr Armando Lopez to MountainView Urology, a member of the CVMC Medical Group. Lopez completed his residency in urology at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Urology. Lopez was a staff urologist at North Country Hospital in Newport from 2002 to 2007 before he moved to Massachusetts to join Bay State Affiliated Medical Practices.

Opportunities Credit Union announces three new board members

At the January board meeting of Opportunities Credit Union, Ellen Shapiro, David Westbrook, and Doug Boardman were named to the board of directors. Opportunities Credit Union is Vermont’s only Community Development Credit Union and is located at 92 North Avenue in Burlington. Their mission is to serve low and moderate income Vermonters and build wealth and financial security. Boardman has been with Hickok & Boardman for over nine years. Shapiro is the publisher of Green Living Journal, Champlain edition, which she launched in 2007.

Comcast names VP of engineering for western New England

Comcast, the nation’s leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, today announced that Andy McCarthy has been promoted to vice president of engineering and technical operations for the Western New England Region, which comprises Vermont, Connecticut, Western Massachusetts and the Carmel, New York area. Lyndon State meteorology students predict for VTrans weather forecasts

If the Vermont transportation budget goes a little farther this year, and if the winter roads are a little clearer during storms, thank the Lyndon Institute of Applied Meteorology (LIAM) and the five students working with the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) to make that happen. Since last fall, Kyle Blount, Steve Breault, Joshua Redinger, Tyler Southard and Matthew Clegg, all LSC meteorology majors, have been sending weather predictions to VTrans.

Secretary of State presents the 2009 Democracy Awards

Vermont Secretary of State Deb Markowitz presented the 2009 Democracy Awards to seven Vermont citizens and organizations at a ceremony at the Vermont Statehouse. The National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Awards were presented to Kristie Bush, teacher at Montpelier’s Union Elementary School; Don Collins, former Franklin County state senator and educator; and WPTZ Television Newschannel 5.
