MacLeay elected to the Board of Union Mutual of Vermont Companies

John H. “Josh” Fitzhugh, president and chief executive officer of Union Mutual of Vermont Companies, announced today that Thomas H. MacLeay has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company and New England Guaranty Insurance Company, Inc. MacLeay is the chairman of the board of National Life Group and recently retired as National Life’s president and CEO after a 32-year career with the company.

Colodny named honorary chair of VSO Endowment Campaign

Ed Colodny, long-time member of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra board was recently named honorary chair of the VSO Endowment Campaign. In January, the VSO governing board announced that it has launched a major campaign to raise $3.5 million, and that it had already raised $2.6 million toward that goal. Colodny, a Burlington native, served the Burlington community as interim president and chief executive officer of the Fletcher Allen Health Care, and prior to that, as interim president and chief executive officer of the University of Vermont.

Gravel and Shea welcome shareholders to the firm

The law firm of Gravel and Shea has announced that Megan J. Shafritz and Timothy M. Eustace have become shareholders of the firm. Shafritz represents clients in complex litigation, including employment law, intellectual property, and other civil matters; general business disputes and provides counseling on First Amendment issues and public records law. Eustace practices in the areas of real estate, land use development and construction law.

LMW Design adds business development specialist to agency creative team

LMW Design, a full service graphic design and advertising agency in Rutland, has expanded its creative team with the addition of Mark Puryear as Business Development Specialist. The announcement of the newly-created position was made by LMW president and owner, Laurie Musick Wright. Puryear has nineteen years of professional sales experience, most recently as a retail advertising account representative at the Rutland Herald. A graduate of Morgan State University, he also held successful stints with the Perceptive Software Group in West Springfield, MA, and Time Warner in Denver.

Bennington Chamber of Commerce announces annual awards

The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Dinner Meeting on January 23, 2009. The Chamber honored retiring Board Members, Gary H. Thomas and Stuart Hurd for their dedication and valuable service. Outgoing Board President, Sue Congdon, was also honored by the chamber. Parisi wins Belle Senecal award

Mindy Parisi, RN received the Belle Senecal award for her untiring dedication and work for maternal and child health in our community. Belle Senecal was a foster parent who literally cared for hundreds of teen girls in her home. Parisi is Maternal and Child Care Coordinator for the Women and Children's Unit at Central Vermont Medical Center.

Sharon native returns as Gifford family nurse practitioner

Family nurse practitioner Megan O’Brien, formerly of Sharon, has joined Gifford Medical Center’s family practice in Randolph. O’Brien grew up in Sharon and attended Hartford High School, where she says her biology teacher sparked a passion for health sciences. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Vermont, graduating with honors in 2001.
