Board of Directors named for Vermont Institute of Contemporary Arts

Seven community members have joined the Board of Directors of the non‐profit

(pending) organization of the Vermont Institute of Contemporary Arts (VTica) set to open in the fall in

downtown Chester. A first floor gallery, exhibition and performing arts space is being developed in a

turn‐of‐the‐century building on Depot Street off Rte. 11.

Saint Michael’s names Dr. Nicole Mombell, Assistant Professor of Modern Languages, Spanish

Dr. Nicole Mombell, who received her doctorate in Spanish and Portuguese from Yale University in May 2011, has been named Assistant Professor of Modern Languages at Saint Michael's College, starting this month with the fall semester.

“I love teaching,” Dr. Mombell said. “And I’m personally attracted to the mission and goals of Saint Michael's College of holistic teaching—teaching students to become engaged citizens of the world,” she said.

Secretary of State Jim Condos appointed Co-Chair of National Association of Secretaries of State’s State Heritage Committee

National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) President Beth Chapman of Alabama has announced the appointments of the 2011-2012 co-chairs for all of the NASS Standing Committees. Secretary Jim Condos has been appointed as co-chair of the Standing Committee on State Heritage, along with the Honorable Tom Schedler of Louisiana.

BOMA names new Executive Director

Margaret (Meg) Harris will join The BOMA Project in mid-August as executive director.

BOMA is a Vermont-based nonprofit that helps the pastoral nomads of northern Kenya to establish small businesses in their communities. Since December 2008, BOMA has established 520 sustainable enterprises—impacting the lives of 2,100 residents and an estimated 10,400 dependent children—in a region marked by extreme poverty, hunger and recurring drought.
