Secretary of State Jim Condos appointed Co-Chair of National Association of Secretaries of State’s State Heritage Committee

National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) President Beth Chapman of Alabama has announced the appointments of the 2011-2012 co-chairs for all of the NASS Standing Committees. Secretary Jim Condos has been appointed as co-chair of the Standing Committee on State Heritage, along with the Honorable Tom Schedler of Louisiana.

The State Heritage Committee provides a forum for members to share information and best practices regarding state heritage programs and venues, including; state archives, museums, libraries, historical sites and state records. Digital preservation of documents is also a key issue for this body. Members work with the Council of State Archivists (COSA), Society of American Archivists, (SAA) and the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators (NAGARA), as well as the Library of Congress and the National Archives and Records Administration.

“I am honored to be appointed co-chair of this committee. In Vermont, it is the Secretary of State’s office that is the repository for state records, and is responsible for the preservation of state archives. Under the watchful eyes of State Archivist Greg Sanford, Vermonters can be assured that we are good stewards of our public records and archives, while preserving our rich history for future generations”, stated Condos.

Secretary Condos has taken a very active role in the activities of NASS. In addition to being appointed co-chair of the State Heritage Committee, he has also been assigned to the following NASS committees; Voter Participation, Presidential Primaries, Elections, Future Disposition of EAC Duties, Business Services, and the Business Identity Theft Task Force. His participation in these relevant and important committees will ensure he is up to date on emerging trends and best practices regarding these issues.

Secretary of State Jim Condos has over 20 years of elected public service, including 18 years at the local level and 8 years as a Vermont State Senator, in addition to more than 30 years of private sector business experience.
