Eileen Boland of Wheelock reappointed to State Women’s Commission

Governor Peter Shumlin has reappointed Eileen Boland of Wheelock to serve on the Vermont Commission on Women (VCW).

Commissioner Boland's interest in women's issues began with her involvement in Vermont's efforts to pass the national equal rights amendment in the early 80's. She has had an active and continuing interest in the social and economic wellbeing of women and girls through her work with senior management teams in Vermont K-16 education and state government.

U.S. Commission on Civil Rights appoints Tom Little to state advisory committee

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has appointed Tom Little, vice president and general counsel of the Vermont Student Assistance Corp., to its Vermont State Advisory Committee.

State advisory committees conduct reviews and provide reports and recommendations concerning local civil rights issues, including justice, voting, discrimination, housing and education. Congress mandates that the federal commission establish advisory committees in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Appointees to state advisory committees serve two-year terms.

2014-15 healthcare career scholarships awarded from North Country Hospital

Each year it is an honor for North Country Hospital’s scholarship committee to review the applicants and make selections based on each student’s essays, transcripts, extra-curricular activities, as well as need. Applicants must also live in the hospital’s service area in order to initially apply. This year, similar to in the past, North Country Hospital will award more than $30,000 in scholarships to deserving students pursuing a career in healthcare. Courses of study include pre-med, neuroscience, physical therapy, radiology, nursing, psychiatry and dental hygiene, to name a few.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Burlington executive director stepping down

Burlington announced its long-time Executive Director, Pam Fenimore, has left the organization. The Charity is forming a search committee to find new leadership. The Board also announced that the current House Manager, Amy Sabourin, is serving as Acting Executive Director. “The Board of Directors is so grateful for Pam Fenimore’s many years of service as a stalwart supporter and advocate for the House that Love Built,” said Monica Smith, Board President. Fenimore began as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in 1983, and later she became House Manager.

Winston Prouty Center hires case manager

Crystal Blamy joins the Winston Prouty Center for Child Development as a full-time coordinator/ case manager in its Family Supportive Housing Program. In this position, Blamy will be helping families who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness secure and maintain stable housing.

For the past four years, Blamy served as a Permanency Case Manager at Becket Family of Services in Manchester, NH, providing strength-based counseling and support that included working with the youth and family, school, and work sites.

Hartford Municipal Building has ground breaking ceremony

The Town of Hartford recently held a ground breaking ceremony for renovations of the Hartford Municipal Building, located at 171 Bridge Street in White River Junction. Bread Loaf Corporation of Middlebury, Vermont is providing Integrated Project Management services for design and construction of a complete renovation of existing Town offices housed in the19th century school building. Construction began June 9th with completion expected in May 2015.
