NEFCU announces 2009 STEM scholarship winners

New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) announced recently the winners of NEFCU’s 2009 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarships. Caroline Weaver of South Burlington is a recent South Burlington High School graduate who will be attending Harvard University in the fall. Caroline will continue her love of science and research at Harvard with dreams of pursuing a career in Medicine.

Timothy Rose of Essex Junction currently attends Stonehill College pursing a degree in Biology with a long term goal of becoming a physician.

Stern Center appoints new program director for professional learning

Dr. Blanche Podhajski, President and Founder of the Stern Center for Language and Learning, is pleased to announce the appointment of Janna Osman, M.Ed., as Program Director for Professional Learning. Ms. Osman will oversee the development and delivery of professional learning opportunities for educators to extend school partnerships and advance knowledge about research based best practices in literacy and models for Response to Intervention. Ms. Osman spent the past eight years as Learning Disabilities Consultant for the State of Vermont Department of Education.

Champlain professor recognized by national cpa organization

Nicole Morris, Assistant Professor of Accounting at Champlain College, has been selected as one of twenty eight Certified Public Accountants, nationally, to attend the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s AICPA Leadership Academy. The AICPA is the trade organization for the CPA profession, and Morris was selected to attend from a pool of highly qualified nominees from across the country. The Leadership Academy is held in Chicago on July 7-9.

Christopher L. Dutton, Former CEO of Green Mountain Power Named Chair of the Vermont Telecommunications Authority

Governor Jim Douglas, Speaker Shap Smith and Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin announced that they have tapped the former head of Green Mountain Power to lead the Vermont Telecommunications Authority (VTA).
