Trombley Oakes appointed as the First Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement at Vermont Tech

Vermont Technical College has appointsed Martha Trombley Oakes to the newly created post of Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement. Trombley Oakes, who is a native Vermonter, comes to Vermont Tech from National Life Group in Montpelier where she served as president and CEO of the National Life Group Charitable Foundation, Inc. and director of corporate and community relations for National Life Group. She also served in the Vermont Secretary of State’s Office under then Secretary Deb Markowitz and United States Congressman Thomas Allen’s Washington, DC Office.

Charles Pizer joins Vermont Public Television as Community Engagement Director

Charles (Chuck) Pizer has joined Vermont Public Television, the statewide public television network, as community engagement director. He will develop partnerships with community organizations, educational groups and other agencies to enhance VPT’s reach and impact throughout the audience area.

For the past decade, VPT has worked to extend its services beyond the screen into the community, drawing on its own local productions and on PBS national programming for inspiration.

Local talent create Game Shows VT

Local performers Jamie Polli, Tim Kavanagh, and Bill Moller have created Game Shows VT, marketing live game shows as a team-building tool for local companies and organizations. Polli hosted the game show "Survey Says!" for over nine years on public access Channel 15. Kavanagh hosted 100 episodes of the Champlain College collaborative "Late Night Saturday with Tim Kavanagh" on WCAX-TV Channel 3. The trio now takes their game shows on the road to perform "spoofs" tailored to suit the needs of any client, including using industry-specific content.

Sunflower named Bromley’s Director of Snowsports

After nearly 30 years on the job – 22 of them as the Director of Bromley Mountain’s Ski and Snowboard School – Peter Robertson has decided to move on to other pursuits. Burleigh Sunflower, who has been Bromley’s Snowboard School Manager for the past seven years and the Snowboard Supervisor at Okemo’s Jackson Gore base area prior to that, has been named Bromley’s new Director of Snow Sports.

Sarah E. Swift, M.D. named Director of CVMC Hospitalist Program

Judy Tarr Tartaglia recently appointed Dr. Sarah Swift as Director of Central Vermont Medical Center’s Hospitalist Program. She most recently served as an inpatient attending physician at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in the division of Hospital Medicine. She was also on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Former head brewer at The Shed Joins Otter Creek Brewing Co

Otter Creek Brewing Co, LLC of Middlebury, Vermont is excited to announce that Jim Lomax, formerly the head brewer at the Shed Brewery in Stowe, Vermont has joined the Otter Creek Brewing family. Jim will start on Monday, November 7.

On Monday, November 1, Otter Creek Brewing announced that it had reached an agreement with Ken and Kathleen Strong, the founders of the legendary Shed Restaurant in Stowe, VT- to acquire The Shed Brewery and The Shed brand family of ales. Jim Lomax becoming part of the Otter Creek Brewing team completes the continuity of the Shed brewing heritage.

Randolph’s Dr. Ken Borie named top nursing home medical director

Gifford Medical Center beloved family physician Dr. Ken Borie of Randolph has been chosen as nursing home Medical Director of the Year by the Vermont Health Care Association.

Dr. Borie received the honor at an Oct. 18 ceremony at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee. A doctor of osteopathic medicine at Gifford since 1980, Dr. Borie is the medical director at Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre - a position he has held since August of 2010 with help from Kim Ladue, a Gifford nurse practitioner working directly at Rowan Court.

Katherine (Kat) O’Neill joined the firm as an Associate in 2011, and was a Summer Associate at the firm in 2010. She works with corporate, institutional, and individual clients in real estate, business, and health care transactions. Kat has lived in Vermont since 2001. While in law school, Kat worked as a law clerk at the Chittenden County State Attorney’s Office. Prior to law school, Kat worked with adolescents at the Centerpoint School in Winooski, Vermont, where she was a Counseling Teacher.
