Ken Ballard honored with Spherion President’s Award

Spherion Staffing Services a recruiting, staffing and workforce solutions provider, announced today that Ken Ballard, franchise owner of the Burlington, Vermont office is the recipient of the President’s Award for 2011. This is the fourth time Ballard has earned this coveted award.

The President’s Award is given to six owners and franchisees that have created consistent revenue and gross profit growth over the past three years.

The Filabot Reclaimer, a desktop device that grinds up and melts those plastic throw-aways, turning them into spools of plastic filament that can be used with desktop 3-D printers. 3-D printers can make a wide range of plastic parts, from cups to doorknobs.

Vermont Tech celebrates final FairPoint class

Last week, Vermont Tech celebrated the achievements of the final class to graduate under the Telecommunications Technology Program for FairPoint Communications, a groundbreaking workforce educational partnership between FairPoint Communications and Vermont Tech. The program offered qualified FairPoint employees an opportunity to earn an Associate Degree in Applied Science (A.A.S.) with a concentration in Telecommunications Technology.

Ob/Gyn Dr. Anne Galante joins Gifford

Anne Galante never planned to be a physician.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Upstate New York, Galante graduated from Cornell University and worked in insurance in Los Angeles and then New York City for a decade. While in New York, she began volunteering in the Emergency Department in Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn. “It was very easy to be helpful,” Galante recalls. She cleaned rooms. She held children while they got stitches. She hugged patients newly diagnosed with cancer.
