St Michael's Professor David Minidch receives top award from national journalism association, the AEJMC Presidential Award

Dr. David Mindich, professor and chair of the Saint Michael's College department of media studies, journalism and digital arts, was honored with the top annual award of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). The Presidential Award was presented to Professor Mindich at the annual meeting of the AEJMC held in Chicago.

Sugarbush President and Owner Winthrop H. Smith, Jr. honored as 2012 Champlain College Distinguished Citizen

Champlain College recently named Sugarbush Resort Owner and President Winthrop Smith the Champlain College 2012 Distinguished Citizen.

The honor stems from Mr. Smith's and Sugarbush's commitment to civic engagement and philanthropy in Vermont. Champlain has named a Distinguished Citizen annually for 51 years. Recent recipients have included former Bear Stearns executive Bruce M. Lisman and Deputy Commander of the US Northern Command Michael Dubie.

Gov. Shumlin appoints student Lachlan Francis to the Board of Education

Gov. Peter Shumlin announced the appointment of Brattleboro Union High School student Lachlan Francis to the Vermont Board of Education. Francis lives in Putney.

Francis, a junior at BUHS, has been active in sports and civic organizations in school. In addition, he has worked as a farm hand and a camp counselor, and traveled to Cuba. He will serve as a non-voting member this year, and become a voting member during his second year on the board.

Second chiropractor joins Sharon sports medicine team

Chiropractor Dr. Andrea Kannas has joined the Sharon Health Center’s sports medicine team part-time.

Dr. Kannas, who is also in private practice in Woodstock, is a Rutland native and Middlebury College graduate who went on to Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minn., for her doctor of chiropractic (D.C.) degree.

She completed her internship at Bloom Chiropractic, Bloomington Natural Care Center and University Health Services, part of Northwestern Health Sciences University, all in Minnesota.
