Jan Marinelli becomes next executive director at Lake Champlain Islands Economic Development Corporation

The Lake Champlain Islands Economic Development Corporation Board has announced that it has hired Jan Marinelli a long time business consultant and economic development professional with over 25 years of experience to be the next executive director. Marinelli, a resident of South Hero, has been business development consultant and strategist with her own firm since 2009. She is also a partner in Versante, LLC, an all-natural, Vermont-made bath and body products line.

Richard Morley, VP, UVM Health Network-Central Vermont Medical Center, awarded Champlain College’s 2015 Distinguished Citizen for Energy Savings Initiatives

University of Vermont Health Network-Central Vermont Medical Center’s Vice President of Support Services Richard Morley was recently honored at the Champlain College 2015 Opening Convocation as the 54th Annual Distinguished Citizen, which honors community leaders in Vermont. Champlain College President Donald J. Laackman and the Board of Trustees presented the award to Richard, a 1974 Champlain College graduate.

Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports presents Michael Feulner Award to University of Vermont Health Network – Central Vermont Medical Center

The Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports presented the Second Annual Michael Feulner Award to University of Vermont Health Network – Central Vermont Medical Center in recognition of having the most employees participate in the Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race on May 14, 2015. UVM Health Network – Central Vermont Medical Center had over 320 employees registered for this year’s race.

Penn State’s Jensen named senior associate dean for research at UVM College of Medicine

The University of Vermont College of Medicine has announced the appointment of Gordon L. Jensen, M.D., Ph.D., as senior associate dean for research. Jensen will also serve as professor of medicine and professor of nutrition and food sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He will join the College of Medicine later this year, succeeding Russell Tracy, Ph.D., professor of pathology and biochemistry and former senior associate dean for research and academic affairs, who has served as interim senior associate dean for research since July 2014.

2015 Norman R. Alpert research prize winners announced

Dr. Nicholas H. Heintz, CMB Program Director at the University of Vermont, recently announced the winners of the 2015 Norman R. Alpert Research Award. Brian Cunnif and Kheng Newick won as co-first authors for their publication, "Disabling Mitochondrial Peroxide Metabolism via Combinatorial Targeting of Peroxiredoxin 3 as an Effective Therapeutic Approach for Malignant Mesothelioma"1.
