New Program Makes Available $2 Million in Low Interest Loans for Home Energy Improvements

The new program can potentially provide very low-interest loans to weatherize approximately 800 homes, depending on the loan amount granted. Vermont Tech Receives $25,000
to Help Fund Summer Bridge Program
RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt-Vermont Technical College this week received a $25,000 grant from the J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Vermont Community Foundation.
The money will be used to support Vermont Tech's Summer Bridge Program, which helps incoming freshmen prepare for the college level math and English courses they'll need to succeed in most of the college's rigorous programs.
While the Summer Bridge program is affordable in comparison to academic year tuition, board and fees, it has in the past been a deterrent to low- to moderate-income students who count on their summer break to earn money for the academic year. The college estimates that between 10 and 15 students each year choose not to enroll at Vermont Tech because of the cost of the Program.

This past April, the Vermont Department of Education approved CCS to confer the Master of Fine Arts Degree and One- and Two-Year Certificates in Cartooning. This was the result of a nearly two-year application process for CCS, including self-study reports and reviews, and an onsite evaluation of its curriculum, facilities and resources, operations, students, faculty, staff, and governance.
"I'm thrilled to join VHEC and its impressive roster of higher education institutions. I'm looking forward to learning more about fellow member institutions, exploring collaborations, and ways in which CCS can support VHEC's goals," says Michelle Ollie, co-founder and president of CCS. "Our small college brings another choice to the state with a niche curriculum in cartooning. CCS offers a destination-based curriculum, which attracts unique creative capital to Vermont. It exemplifies the state's entrepreneurial distinction," says Ollie.

Washington, D.C. Rep. Peter Welch (VT-AL) supported and the House passed HR 6532, the Highway Trust Fund Restoration Act, to address a projected shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund and restore more than $8 billion in federal funding for states.
The bill, which has cleared the Senate and will now be sent to the president for his signature, restores over $47 million in federal transportation funding for Vermont's roads and bridges.

VTrans is repaving about 10 miles of Route 7 between Ferrisburgh and New Haven. Recent activity has been off road, but starting Tuesday (September 16) the paving machines will return. We expect them to be working for five solid days, including Saturday, Sept 20.
Paving means traffic must be limited to one lane, and history shows that lengthy delays in this area can result when this happens. Therefore, motorists should expect that there will be delays between September 16 and September 20 along Route 7 for the 10-mile stretch that begins at the intersection of Route 22A in Ferrisburgh and runs south to New Haven. Motorists should allow for additional time to reach their destination, or seek an alternate route whenever possible.
I remind everyone that paving is weather dependent. We have scheduled the work to run from September 16 to September 20, but these dates are subject to change if Mother Nature does not cooperate.
