In this role, Dr. Ravven will direct psychiatric and clinical care services for the agency to ensure the delivery of high quality medical, nursing, and clinical care. Dr. Ravven succeeds current Chief Medical Officer Sandra Steingard, MD who has been with the agency for 25 years and has been a leader and a scholar in her field.

Vermont Business Magazine Green Mountain Power (GMP) announced today it is among Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in the World for the fourth year in a row, with the influential magazine highlighting GMP’s commitment to groundbreaking programs that reduce carbon emissions and costs for all customers. Other companies on the 2020 list include Snap, Shopify, Tesla, and Microsoft. GMP is the only utility honored in the top Ten for Energy category, landing at number three, up from five last year. One in particular stands out as a mortal threat to fundamental Vermont principles. That is Proposal 9, with fifteen co-sponsors: “to provide that the citizens of the State have a right to a clean environment.” This new right would be added to the Vermont Declaration of Rights, our brilliant 18th Century charter of liberty that has never before been amended.

The Vermont Health Department is closely monitoring the developments in the outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus ("COVID-19"). Vermont is prepared to respond to protect and support Vermonters. On the evening of March 7, 2020, health officials announced the first case of COVID-19 in Vermont. This Bennington County case is considered presumptive pending Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmation. We note that several schools in the state were closed today related to efforts to avoid spread of disease. The Health Department is working with the Agency of Education to provide public health guidance to schools and school districts.
