UVM Medical Center Board of Trustees appoints four new members, Pat Donehower, RN, named board chair

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Medical Center Board of Trustees has appointed four new members who will serve four-year terms – Deborah L. Winters, Owner of Firetech Sprinkler Corp.; Jesse Bridges, CEO of United Way of Northwest Vermont; Anne W. Doremus, managing partner at Hanson & Doremus Investment Management; and, Nadia A. Mitchell, Equity Initiatives Director at Champlain College.

The Board of Trustees has also elected Patricia Donehower, RN, as its new chairwoman. Donehower is a lecturer in nursing in the UVM College of Nursing and Health Sciences and recently retired as vice president of Clinical Services at UVM Health Network Home Health & Hospice (formerly the Visiting Nurse Association for Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties). Donehower said the new members of the board bring broad experience and insight to the board that will help it achieve the goals of the medical center.

“Each of our new members brings exceptional leadership qualities, personal and professional experience and knowledge of our community to the UVM Medical Center Board. We look forward to continuing to support the mission of the medical center and its staff in the delivery of great care to our patients, their families and the community,” Donehower said.

Jesse Bridges

Jesse Bridges is CEO for the United Way of Northwest Vermont, the leading organization in convening advocates, leaders and volunteers to address complex social problems and secure the resources to support change. Under his leadership since 2017, the organization achieved recognition as one of the best places to work in Vermont, created a continuous dynamic strategic planning process and shifted the organization’s business model to a more sustainable vision for the future. He previously served as the City of Burlington’s Director of the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department. Under his leadership, the department finished the city’s first-ever comprehensive parks master plan. He helped found the Parks Foundation, a separate 501c3 to raise private dollars to support the ongoing park rehabilitation efforts. Mr. Bridges received his B.A. in History in 2002 and a Master’s in Public Administration in 2008, both from the University of Vermont. A graduate of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership Champlain program class of 2011, he joined the Board of Directors in 2012 and chaired the board from 2015-2017. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce and as an alternate to the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission.

Anne W. Doremus

Anne W. Doremus is Managing Partner of Hanson & Doremus Investment Management, where she is responsible for firm strategy, portfolio management, security analysis and client interaction. Before joining the firm in 1996, she spent five years with a major mutual fund company, Sentinel Advisors, in Montpelier, Vt., and three years with Fraser Management Associates in Burlington. She is a founding member and past president of the Vermont CFA Society. She has taught investment management courses at Saint Michael’s College and The University of Vermont. Doremus holds a B.S. in economics from The University of Vermont and an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College. She is also a CFA® Charterholder. Ms. Doremus has served on a number of nonprofit boards and currently sits on the Investment Committee for the Society of St. Edmund and the UVM Health Network Home Health & Hospice. She lives in Shelburne with her husband

Nadia A. Mitchell

Nadia A. Mitchell is the Equity Initiatives director at Champlain College as well as a strategic development, event and partnerships professional with extensive experience at various organizations, including Howard Center and Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington and the San Jose Grand Prix and American Musical Theatre of San Jose, Calif. She earned a BS in business administration from Saint Michael’s College in 2001 and a Master’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sport management from San Jose State University, Calif., in 2005. In 2019, she was awarded a graduate certificate in leadership from Champlain College and expects to receive a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from University of Vermont in 2021. For more than 15 years, Ms. Mitchell served in a variety of event and sports management roles. As co-founder and vice president of YPLAY (Youth Participation Leads to Achieving Years), she provided organizational oversight and development from 2014-18. She has also taught event management courses at Champlain College and was associate director of admissions from 2015-19. Ms. Mitchell has volunteered with a number of community organizations, including the the Integrated Arts Academy in Burlington and United Way of Northwest Vermont. She currently serves as an advisory board member for the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival and a corporator for Northfield Savings Bank.

Deborah Winters

Deborah Winters is the Owner and President of Firetech Sprinkler Corp., a specialty contractor that designs, installs, services and maintains fire sprinkler systems throughout Vermont, northern New Hampshire and northeastern New York. Prior to joining Firetech in 2004, she was a project director for Corcoran Jennison Company, a Boston real estate developer, and served as a project engineer for Turner Construction Company in its Boston office. She graduated from Princeton University with a B.S. in civil engineering and operations research and received her MBA from Boston University. Ms. Winters has served on several boards, including the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation, Champlain Valley Exposition and the UVM Medical Center Foundation Board, where she was involved with the Mother Baby Unit Campaign. She currently serves on the board of the Vermont Bond Bank and co-chairs the Swanton Enhancement Project, an active group of municipal and community members working to create a vibrant Swanton where people want to live, work, learn and play. She resides in Swanton with her husband, Gordon, and their two children.
