American Cancer Society hires new community executive for endurance events

The American Cancer Society announces the appointment of Kate Kerrigan as Community Executive for Endurance Events. Kate will plan and organize Society events such as marathons, cycling races and other endurance events to raise money for promotion, advocacy, and research of cancer. The Community Executive for Endurance Events is a new position in Vermont, created by the Vermont American Cancer Society to tackle additional events and larger commitments. Currently Kate is promoting participation in the 2009 Keybank City Marathon & Relay through the Charity Runner Program.

Janet Collins hired as techniques instructor at the Vermont Woodworking School

Janet Collins will officially start as a Techniques Instructor at the Vermont Woodworking School in Fairfax, beginning Thursday, April 23rd, 2009. Collins will support Co-Founder, Robert Fletcher in the education of the full and part-time students enrolled in the Woodworking Immersion Program, and of students attending classes and workshops at the school. Since Vermont Woodworking School’s official opening in its new location two months ago, Collins has taught a five-day relief carving class, and a picture frame class.

UVM College of Medicine names senior associate dean for research

University of Vermont College of Medicine Dean Frederick C. Morin, M.D., has announced that, after a national search, Ira Bernstein, M.D., has been named senior associate dean for research. Bernstein, who will succeed Russell Tracy, Ph.D., professor of pathology and biochemistry and director of the Laboratory for Clinical Biochemistry Research, will begin his new position on July 1, 2009. Bernstein is a professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences and serves as vice-chair for obstetrics and director of maternal fetal medicine at UVM and Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Northern Power Systems names chief human resources officer

Northern Power Systems, Inc., a next-generation wind energy company, announced that William E. Decker has been appointed Chief Human Resources Officer. The appointment continues Northern's progression toward becoming a major commercial force in the wind power industry. VCIA Board announces interim president

The Board of Directors of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) has appointed Diane Leach interim president of the Association. The appointment will become effective upon Molly Lambert's departure from the organization. Lambert has been recommended by Senator Patrick Leahy for appointment by President Obama as State Director for Rural Development for Vermont and New Hampshire.

Parlato elected Board President at the Vermont Mozart Festival

The Vermont Mozart Festival is pleased to announce its election of Richard Parlato as Board President. Richard has been a long-time stage manager for the festival and principal of Parlato Productions. He has been involved with the Board since 2005. The festival extends its thanks to outgoing President John Hammer III, who led the festival for the past two years and will continue as an active Board member.
