The American Cancer Society announces the appointment of Kate Kerrigan as Community Executive for Endurance Events. Kate will plan and organize Society events such as marathons, cycling races and other endurance events to raise money for promotion, advocacy, and research of cancer. The Community Executive for Endurance Events is a new position in Vermont, created by the Vermont American Cancer Society to tackle additional events and larger commitments. Currently Kate is promoting participation in the 2009 Keybank City Marathon & Relay through the Charity Runner Program. She will ask marathoners to run and pledge money for the American Cancer Society. The event starts on May 24, at 8:00 at Battery Park, Burlington. As with every event the American Cancer Society sponsors, the main goal is to raise funds and awareness of cancer and research. “Kate brings knowledge of endurance events. Her interests in cycling and running make her a great fit for the Community Executive for Endurance Events position” said Hilary Casillas, State Vice President for Development. Kate is a Burlington area native and an avid biker and runner. She recently returned to Vermont after working as event manager and charity coordinator for the “Life is Good” apparel company in Boston.
