University of Vermont lecture hall named for William and Ellinor Hauke

The University of Vermont posthumously honored alumni William R. Hauke, Sr. and Ellinor B. Hauke by naming a large lecture hall in the Old Mill Complex in their honor. In his remarks at the September 23 Hauke Lecture Hall dedication ceremony, President Daniel Mark Fogel expressed gratitude for the Haukes’ many contributions to the University of Vermont over seven decades.

Greg Weimer presents at the 131st Vermont Bar Association’s annual meeting

Greg Weimer, an attorney at Hoff Curtis, presented recently at the Evidence and Procedure Year in Review program at the 131st Vermont Bar Association’s Annual Meeting at the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, VT. Weimer, a member of the Vermont Supreme Court Civil Rules Committee, helped draft changes to the Vermont Civil Rules to provide for the discovery of electronically stored information. “These changes will align Vermont with the Federal Rules and provide some much needed ground rules for this rapidly developing area of the law.”

Champlain College welcomes new additions to their staff

Alison Mueller of Essex has joined Champlain College as the Vermont Admissions representative working with area high schools and guidance counselors. Originally from Nashua, NH, she graduated from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NY in 2007 with a BA in Criminal Justice. Prior to Champlain College, she worked as Assistant Director of Admissions at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH.

James Cross to head international program at Champlain College

James P. Cross of Burlington has joined Champlain College as the new Associate Provost and Senior International Officer. He comes to Champlain from Clemson University in South Carolina where he served as the vice provost for international affairs and professor of political science.

This semester 74 Champlain students are studying abroad at Champlain campus programs in Montreal, Quebec, Dublin, Ireland and Mumbai, India. The Burlington campus is hosting 17 international students from 14 countries.

Stuart Kauffman, complex systems pioneer, to join UVM faculty

Stuart Kauffman, one of the world's most eminent scientists — a founder of the field of complex systems science, pioneer of biocomplexity research, and MacArthur "Genius" Fellow — will join the faculty of the University of Vermont in January, the university announced today.

Kauffman will join UVM's Complex Systems Center with a joint faculty appointment in the university's College of Medicine and College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. Funding secured by Senator Patrick Leahy in the NASA budget for 2009 launched the Complex Systems Center.

Hubert Schriebl to receive the Paul Robbins Ski Journalism Award

The Vermont Ski Museum Board of Directors has selected Hubert Schriebl to receive the Paul Robbins Ski Journalism Award. The Paul Robbins Ski Journalism Award recognizes a Vermonter who performs his/her skill in written, broadcast, or photo journalism with ethics, humor, good taste and always with the promotion of Vermont skiing and the larger skiing community in mind. The nominee is recognized for a lifetime of service to the ski community. The Museum will present Schriebl with this award at the 8th Annual Vermont Ski Museum Hall of Fame Induction October 24, 2009.
