The University of Vermont posthumously honored alumni William R. Hauke, Sr. and Ellinor B. Hauke by naming a large lecture hall in the Old Mill Complex in their honor. In his remarks at the September 23 Hauke Lecture Hall dedication ceremony, President Daniel Mark Fogel expressed gratitude for the Haukes’ many contributions to the University of Vermont over seven decades. Fogel cited the couple’s support of the Vermont Cancer Center, the Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory and the William and Ellinor Hauke Scholarship Fund as being the most notable of their lasting legacies associated with the University of Vermont.
Several of the current student recipients of scholarship awards from the William and Ellinor Hauke Fund were present for the dedication ceremony along with members of the Hauke family.
The Hauke Lecture Hall seats 110 students and is heavily used for classes during the day and student organization meetings in the evening. It is located in the Lafayette building portion of the Old Mill Complex.
William and Ellinor Hauke received degrees from UVM in 1935 and 1934, respectively. They were active volunteers for and generous contributors of the University of Vermont for decades. William Hauke died in August 2000, and Ellinor Hauke passed away in February 2008.
