Director of Operations and Safety for Trumbull-Nelson Construction named 2010 Board Chairman for the NH/VT ABC

Kenneth G. Merrow, Director of Operations and Safety for Trumbull-Nelson Construction Company of Hanover, NH was named 2010 Board Chairman for the NH/VT Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) at the organization’s annual meeting in Bedford, NH. A resident of Newport, New Hampshire, Mr. Merrow served as Vice Chairman of the ABC Chapter in 2009.

ABC is a National trade association representing merit shop contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and related firms in the United States.

Thomas Langan joins McFarland-Johnson

As Division Manager, Tom will lead the growth of McFarland Johnson’s buildings and facilities market throughout the New England region. Tom is a graduate of Bucknell University, with a BS in Civil Engineering and MS in Structural Engineering. He has over 25 years experience in the design of structural systems in new construction, as well as preservation of historic structures.

Richard Feeley, President of Coburn& Feeley Property Management, Inc. of Burlington, announced, that Michelle Kelley has been named Leasing Agent and Property Manager of the new Pinecrest at Essex Senior Living Community. Feeley noted that Coburn& Feeley was appointed as the management company for Pinecrest; which is under construction, and located on Joshua Way, just off of Susie Wilson Rd in Essex.

Pinder Elected Member of National Academy of Engineering

Dr. George F. Pinder has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Charles M. Vest, president of NAE, will honor Dr. Pinder, one of 68 newly elected members as well as the newly elected eight foreign associates in a ceremony this Fall.

Pinder is a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering with secondary appointments in Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science, at the University of Vermont College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.

Dr. Jason H.T. Bates has been appointed as the Interim Director of the School of Engineering

Dr. Jason H.T. Bates has been appointed as the Interim Director of the School of Engineering (SoE) in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS). Bates will split his time between his continuing research activities in the College of Medicine and in his new role as the Interim Director of the SoE, which he will begin immediately.

Robbins Named President of Vermont Green Building Network

Jesse Robbins, LEED AP with the architectural firm Freeman French Freeman, has been named President of the Vermont Green Building Network (VGBN) at their annual meeting in January.

Robbins has served on the board since VGBN’s inception in 2003. In his new role as president, he will promote VGBN's mission of increasing Vermont's participation in green building and the environmental, financial, community and health benefits of green design, construction, and building operation practices.

Orthopaedic surgeons certified in Sports Medicine

Christian Bean, MD and Christopher Meriam, MD, members of Green Mountain Orthopaedic Surgery recently received their Certified Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine. Brian Aros, MD, also a member of the practice, did a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Ohio State University as part of his training. In addition to his newest certification, Dr. Bean is also a certified hand surgeon.
