Energize Vermont names Mark Whitworth executive director

Energize Vermont is pleased to announce Mark Whitworth has been named its new Executive Director. Whitworth succeeds Lukas B. Snelling who helped establish Energize Vermont as an organization to further the interests of Vermonters who wish to support the development of renewable energy, but who retain their commitment to protect Vermont’s communities and preserve the state’s precious natural resources.

The Essex Resort & Spa expands senior management team

The Essex, Vermont’s Culinary Resort and Spa, announces the appointment of Jim Robertson as vice president of Sales and Marketing. Prior to The Essex, Jim spent nine years at Sugarbush Resort in Warren, VT, as the vice president of Sales.

“This is an exciting time for the resort as we deepen our distinctive culinary brand through property enhancements and rich guest experiences,” said Jim Glanville, general manager. “Jim’s vision and leadership in the sales arena will be a welcome contribution property wide.”

New England Culinary Institute promotes Jean-Louis Gerin to chief operating officer

New England Culinary Institute is proud to announce the promotion of Executive Chef Jean-Louis Gerin to Chief Operating Officer. Chef Gerin joined NECI in 2012, bringing a rich culinary background to NECI as a James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: Northeast, 2010 winner of The Silver Toque, and winner of the Food Network’s television show ‘Chopped’ Challenge.

Landmark School senior, Simon English, named winner of the National Gettysburg Address competition

Simon English, Landmark School senior, delivered the winning rendition of The Gettysburg Address at the first annual competition held at Greenwood School in Putney, VT as part of documentarian Ken Burns' Learn the Address initiative. Thirteen schools from across the U.S. participated in the competition attended by over 250 invited guests including Burns, who recently filmed The Address, a documentary about The Gettysburg Address using footage of Greenwood School students preparing to memorize and deliver Lincoln's most well known speech.

CVMC pharmacy technician wins Vermont award

Central Vermont Medical Center Pharmacy Technician Linda Eastman was named Pharmacy Technician of the Year by the Vermont Society of Health-System Pharmacists (VtSHP) at their annual meeting in Colchester.

The VtSHP Board chose Linda from a group of nominees. She was recognized for her strong work on the 340B prescription program and for kick starting the Community Health Pharmacy Prescription Assistance program at CVMC.

Cancer researcher wins Cytation™ 3 in BioTek's "Think Possible" application contest

BioTek congratulates Dr. Jeff Peterson of the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Pennsylvania for winning a new Cytation™ 3 Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader in BioTek's "Think Possible" Application Contest. Entrants were judged on a short essay that they submitted, detailing the application that they think is possible for their specific research using the Cytation 3. As an Associate Professor, Dr. Peterson studies chemical biology and kinase signaling in cancer.

Stowe Mercantile’s BYOB program helps local charities and the environment

Marc Sherman, owner of Stowe Mercantile & Boutique, recently presented a donation of $56.00 to Deb Krempke of Lamoille Community Food Share. The businesses instituted a new program this past year: Bring Your Own Bag, or BYOB. For every bag a customer declines to accept at Stowe Mercantile & Boutique, staff members drop a nickel into a donation jar which will then be given to a local charity each month.
