Community College of Vermont's associate dean nominated for At Large member of Eastern region CUPA-HR

Community College of Vermont has announced that associate dean for human and administrative resources Lisa Yaeger was nominated and endorsed to be the At Large member of the Eastern Region Board of CUPA-HR (Colleges and Universities Professional Association – Human Resources). As an At Large member, Yaeger will play a role in engaging new member schools and professionals communicating national office initiatives to her local CUPA-HR chapter as well as the region and assist in coordinating the annual regional conference.

Norwich University names new senior development officer

Sean Lord, of Natick, Mass., has been named the new senior development officer covering Vermont, New Jersey, metropolitan New York, western Florida and Texas.

Lord earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Norwich and commissioned into the Army in 1985. He served as an armor officer and executive officer at Fort Knox until 1988 and as a public affairs officer in the Army Reserves and Massachusetts National Guard until 1996.

Pediatric nurse practitioner Jill Read named as Vermont’s 2015 Childhood Immunization Champion

Jill Read, a pediatric nurse practitioner at Castleton Family Health Center has been recognized as Vermont’s 2015 Childhood Immunization Champion by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Each year, during National Infant Immunization Week (April 18 – 25, 2015) the CDC Foundation and CDC honor health professionals around the country who go above and beyond to promote immunization among children in their communities. Vermont’s 2015 Immunization Champion is Jill Read.

VP for Human Resources, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs receives diversity visionary award

Wanda Heading-Grant, UVM vice president for Human Resources, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, is a recipient of a Diversity Visionary Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. As a recipient of the award — a national honor recognizing individuals who have made significant past and present contributions to diversity in higher education — Heading-Grant is featured along with three other recipients in INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine’s April/May 2015 issue.

Norwich to host filmmaker Ben Kalina for climate change documentary screening and panel

Norwich University will host documentary filmmaker Ben Kalina and screen his 2014 Sundance Film Festival winning documentary on climate change and coastal communities, “Shored Up: When Human Nature and the Force of Nature Collide,” on Monday, April 20 at 7 p.m.

A panel discussion on community resiliency with Kalina, a Norwich engineering professor, and a state of Vermont employee involved in Tropical Storm Irene response among others will follow. Both events are free and open to the public and will be held in Cabot 85.

Dr Jan Carney elected to new leadership roles at UVM and American College of Physicians

Jan K. Carney, M.D., M.P.H., FACP, professor of medicine and associate dean for public health at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, will take on two new leadership roles in the next several months.

In March, Carney was elected Vice President by the UVM Faculty Senate, a role she will assume on July 1, 2015. Later this month, her term as Governor of the Vermont Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) will officially begin during Internal Medicine 2015 – the ACP annual scientific meeting in Boston, Mass., April 30 to May 2, 2015.

Nurse practitioners Jessica MacLeod and Barbara Grothe-Penney join Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing

Jessica MacLeod, MSN, BSN, BA, adult and gerontology nurse practitioner and Barbara (Bobbie) Grothe-Penney, APRN recently joined nurse practitioner Amy Brewer, at University of Vermont Health Network – Central Vermont Medical Center’s Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berlin, Vermont.

Jessica was most recently employed at Kingdom Internal Medicine at Northeast Regional Hospital and Caledonia Internal Medicine at Northern Counties Health Care, both in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

Gifford staff raises money for March of Dimes

More than 100 Gifford Medical Center employees raised $505 for the March of Dimes by wearing “Blue Jeans for Babies” to work on Friday, March 20, 2015.

Each March the Randolph medical center and its outlying health clinics participate in the fund-raiser, which allows employees who donate $5 to the March of Dimes to wear jeans to work for the day. The March of Dimes is the nation’s leading non-profit organization for pregnancy and baby health. It raises funds through a variety of events to help prevent birth defects, premature births and infant mortality.
