Owners of the Shelburne Country Store acquire The Christmas Loft

Steve and Deb Mayfield, owners of the Shelburne Country Store, today announced the acquisition of The Christmas Loft located in Shelburne.

Based in Jay, Vermont, The Christmas Loft is a privately held corporation that operates 3 retail locations in Shelburne, Vermont, as well as North Woodstock and North Conway New Hampshire. The purchase by the Mayfields includes just the Shelburne, Vermont location while The Christmas Loft will continue to operate the remaining New Hampshire locations as well as their office and warehouse in Jay, Vermont independently.

Andrew Hoak, PE, PG, joins DuBois & King

Andrew Hoak, PE, PG, has joined DuBois & King as a Manager of the firm’s Water Resources Department. Mr. Hoak is a hydrogeologist and an environmental engineer with 20 years of experience consulting on water quality, stormwater management, water and wastewater studies, and groundwater and soil remediation projects. Mr. Hoak lives in Jeffersonville and is based out of the firm’s Randolph office.

ECHO welcomes new board members

Four new members joined the ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, board of directors with terms effective April 1.

Sara Muyskens is former ECHO board chair and has been intimately involved since the organization's inception. Paul Sisson has also served on the board and is former planning and finance committee chair.

Tom Leavitt joined for the first time but has worked with ECHO professionally and has followed the organization’s growth. Scott Rossborough, new to the area, found ECHO to be in line with his goals after researching local nonprofits.

Press Forward hires Kathryn Flagg

Press Forward PR announced the hire of Kathryn Flagg to the position of Sustainable Accounts Manager today. Flagg, a staff writer at the Vermont weekly Seven Days, will oversee press outreach and communication for Shacksbury Cider, a Shoreham, Vermont-based producer of dry, food-friendly ciders made with heirloom apples and traditional processes. In addition to her work for Shacksbury, Flagg will lend communications support for Press Forward’s sport, sustainability and wellness-related clients.

Two UVM students win Boren scholarships to study abroad

Michael Chilton, a senior microbiology major, and Colin Kamphuis, a sophomore political science and economics double-major, have been awarded prestigious Boren Scholarships. The David L. Boren Scholarship is a nationally competitive award that provides up to $20,000 for students to study a critical foreign language in a nontraditional country important to U.S. national security.

Fourteenth annual Rose Black Nursing Excellence Awards takes place

The Fourteenth Annual Rose Black Nursing Excellence Awards and the third annual Licensed Nursing Assistant Excellence Awards were recently presented to five University of Vermont Health Network-Central Vermont Medical Center nurses and licensed nursing assistants who exemplify the best aspects of nursing practice and consistently demonstrate excellent nursing care.
