Watersheds United Vermont welcomes new director

Watersheds United Vermont (WUV) welcomes new Director, Lyn Munno, to lead the efforts to empower community-based watershed groups in all parts of the state to protect and restore Vermont’s waters.

For several decades, Vermonters have stepped forward to protect and enhance water quality and river health in their home watersheds. Many have formed formal watershed organizations that monitor water quality, conduct public outreach, and sponsor restoration projects and river cleanup events.

Merchants Bank partners with WARMTH to help low-income Vermonters

Merchants Bank partnered with WARMTH again this year to help prevent low-income Vermonters across the state from going without heat this winter. Merchants Bank matched dollar-for-dollar donations raised for WARMTH throughout the month of December. Coupled with the Merchants Bank match of $40,000, the Vermont community raised $107,087.

“When people see that their donation is matched they tend to LEAP on board! Thank you, it truly makes a difference”, said Joan White, Development Director at CVOEO.

UVM sociologist receives Frank Bryan Research Award from Center for Research on Vermont

The Center for Research on Vermont has selected Kathy Fox, professor of sociology at the University of Vermont, as the 2016 Frank M. Bryan Vermont Scholar, for a Vermont research project on offender reintegration.

Over the years of studying Vermont’s efforts to involve local communities and citizens in criminal justice, Kathy Fox, a professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, believes that the Vermont ethic of “participatory democracy, civic engagement, and communities taking care of their own” has enabled Vermont to be a world leader in its approaches to community justice.
