Ceremony launches Vermont’s first, multi-family passive house building

State and local officials, and leaders from finance and nonprofit housing organizations, marked the construction start of an innovative, affordable housing community for seniors at a groundbreaking ceremony on May 2nd.

Elm Place is located at 60 Bombardier Road in Milton and will be Vermont’s first multi-family building certified to Passive House standards. The super energy-efficient building will use roughly 65% less energy than those built to today’s standard codes. This efficiency is achieved through better windows and doors, added insulation, and improved air sealing.

Gifford staff wear blue jeans to raise funds for March of Dimes

More than 100 Gifford Medical Center employees raised $525 for the March of Dimes by wearing “Blue Jeans for Babies” to work on Friday, March 18, 2016.

Each March the Randolph medical center and its outlying health clinics participate in the fundraiser, which allows employees who donate $5 to the March of Dimes to wear jeans to work for the day. The March of Dimes is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. It raises funds through a variety of events to help prevent birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality.

Stern Center for Language and Learning hires new director of development

The Stern Center for Language and Learning has hired Moneer Greenbaum as their new Director of Development. Greenbaum has extensive experience in the development field, including nine years at Champlain College, first as Major Gift Officer and then as Leadership Giving Director. Previous to her career in fundraising, Greenbaum had a successful 20-year career at the Fortune 500 company, US Airways. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from University of California San Diego in 1978.

New board member joins Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation

Steven R. Gordon, President / CEO of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (BMH) in Brattleboro, Vermont, recently joined 11 other community members in serving on Brattleboro Development Credit Corporations’ (BDCC) board of trustees. BDCC, is a private, nonprofit economic development organization that serves as a catalyst for industrial and commercial growth throughout Southeastern Vermont, including Windham County and the towns of Readsboro, Searsburg, Weston and Winhall.
