Executive Director Stern departing CVCOA after 30 years of service

Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA) Executive Director Beth Stern is leaving the agency after thirty years of service effective October 31, 2020.

“On behalf of the Central Vermont Council on Aging Board of Directors, we wish Beth all the best. Beth is committed to supporting older Vermonters. The Board of Directors is actively recruiting for a new executive director. In the interim, two members of CVCOA’s senior leadership team will serve as co-executive directors,” stated Emily McKenna and Rebecca Wright, Co-Presidents of CVCOA’s Board of Directors.

World Learning and SIT welcome five new board members

World Learning and School for International Training (SIT) are pleased to announce the appointment of four new members and one returning member to the Board of Trustees: Rye Barcott, Jack Benson, Elizabeth Clay Roy, Aicha Cooper, and Roopali Phadke. The cohort brings diverse perspectives and rich experience in their respective fields, which include nonprofit leadership, marketing, international development, social justice, and climate resilience.

VPR and Seven Days win 2020 National Edward R Murrow award for investigative reporting

Vermont Public Radio and Seven Days have won a 2020 National Edward R. Murrow award for their 2019 series “Worse For Care,” a joint investigation into Vermont’s assisted living and residential care homes for the elderly. The award for Investigative Reporting in the Small Market Radio Division was presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association on October 10.

Kerry McGovern takes business development lead at LMS

Liquid Measurement Systems, Inc. announced that Kerry McGovern has been named Manager of Business Development for the Vermont aerospace firm. McGovern assumes leadership of the Company’s Business Development team, taking charge of tactical execution of its strategic initiatives, and driving diversification and penetration across sectors and platforms in military and commercial aircraft, fixed wing and rotary, hybrid propulsion aircraft, UAVs, and platform upgrades and modifications.

Williston Observer has new owners

The Williston Observer, the town’s weekly newspaper of record, is pleased to announce a transition to new ownership. Longtime owners Marianne and Paul Apfelbaum of Williston Publishing and Promotions have sold the paper to Twin Ponds Publishing, owned by Williston residents Susan and Rick Cote.

Susan Cote will assume the role of publisher, while retaining the current newspaper staff. Marianne Apfelbaum will be staying on through a transition arrangement to ensure smooth handover of the business.
