New HUD director named for Vermont

David Tille, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) New England Regional Administrator announced today that Sean Thomas has been named Field Office Director for Vermont.

In this capacity, Thomas will serve as HUD’s liaison to mayors, city managers, elected representatives, state and local officials, members of Congress, private and non-profit developers, stakeholders and customers. HUD oversees public housing, community planning and development, and fair housing programs, as well as single family and multifamily housing Federal Housing Administration (FHA) programs throughout the state.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Sean as HUD's new Field Office Director based in Burlington,” said Tille. “We know he will be a strong partner in serving the people of Vermont.”

Thomas has a 26-year career in government in New Hampshire. His experience includes serving as Chief of Staff for two City of Manchester Mayors and serving as District Director for U.S. Congressman Frank Guinta. He also worked at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport and undertook studies in Theology at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA. Most recently he was employed by the University System of New Hampshire and the New Hampshire Department of Education on a joint special project.

I have a great passion for helping people improve their lives and I am eager to make a difference for those we serve.”

Thomas’s career highlights include authoring municipal budgets, fostering economic development initiatives like the Manchester Civic Center, co-chairing special commissions like the Mayor’s Commission to End Chronic Homelessness, proactively interacting with the public, and mentoring junior staff.

He served as a board member of New Horizons for New Hampshire and as a Trustee for the Founders Academy, and currently serves as the Chair of the St. Raphael Parish Finance Council. He was twice elected as a City Moderator. In 2008, he was recognized as one of New Hampshire’s 40 Under Forty.

Mr. Thomas has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from St. Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire.
