Vermont Land Trust board welcomes three new members

Sam Burr, of Bristol; Lizah Makombore (pictured), of Burlington; and Arwen Turner, of Wallingford, have been elected to the Vermont Land Trust Board of Trustees.

Burr, an attorney, former state representative and owner of Last Resort Farm in Monkton, brings diverse agricultural experience to VLT. Since the late 1970s, he has lived and farmed in Vermont — living on a livestock/goat dairy and then later managing a cow dairy before transitioning to diversified farming in the 1980s.

Kantak joins McFarland Johnson as regional engineering manager

Jason Kantak, former vice president at the electric lighting equipment manufacturer Aquarii in East Syracuse, New York, has joined McFarland Johnson as regional engineering manager in its civil engineering services division.

McFarland Johnson is a 100% employee-owned planning, engineering, technology, environmental and construction services firm. In his new role, Kantak will focus on expanding all of MJ’s divisions within the central New York region, with an emphasis on civil, transportation, aviation and environmental services.

Southeast Vermont Transit announces CEO transition

Southeast Vermont Transit has announced that General Manager Christine Howe (pictured) will become CEO of the regional public transportation company on July 1, 2026, following the retirement of current CEO Randy Schoonmaker on June 30.

Howe started at The MOOver in 2017 as Wilmington general manager and became SEVT general manager in 2020. She is a graduate of the University of New Haven and serves on numerous regional and statewide public transit committees.
