Many people rely on leaves to identify a tree, but after the brilliant display of fall colors, "stick season" can make tree identification a daunting task. Join Chittenden County Forester Ethan Tapper for a one-night course in learning to identify Vermont’s most common trees and shrubs by looking at their bark, buds, and other clues. 

This course will use primarily outdoor instruction to teach participants to identify some of the most common trees in Vermont's forests.

Our rapidly changing world is becoming increasingly complex and uncertain. If you lead, manage, or in any way guide others, you've probably realized your job is getting harder.  We need more creative, adaptive, innovative, and resilient strategies and organizations in this landscape, but traditional leadership mindsets and methods aren't providing them.

On Sunday, Retreat Farm hosted the first Community Days to celebrate the locals and regular visitors who call the Farm home. One highlight of the event was the animal meet-and-greet. Animal Care Manager, Emma Recchi, provided a special opportunity for visitors to get up close and personal with Carlos the Ox, Sassy the donkey, and the farm’s herd of goats, including Pip, Trouble, Sundae, Cinnamon, and Noon and Meridien visiting from Big Picture Farm.

Join Dr. Tony D’Amato, of the University of Vermont, and Ethan Tapper, the Chittenden County Forester, for a free, public walk at the Catamount Community Forest in Williston. Ethan and Tony will lead a walk through an upcoming forest management area and discuss how to care for our forests in a changing climate.
