New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) recently announced the hiring of two new employees.

Diane Strackbein will assume the position of Project Manager in NEFCU’s Harvest Lane Branch. Diane has worked in the banking industry for approximately 12 years, including the past several years as a Lead IT Projects Manager with a local banking institution.

Entergy has promoted Vermont Yankee Plant Manager Chris Wamser to its VY site vice president position replacing Michael Colomb who has served in that position since October 2008. Colomb has been named site vice president for the James A. Fitzpatrick plant near Oswego, N.Y.

Saint Michael's College physics professor Dr. John O'Meara of Essex Junction, Vt. and two colleagues at the University of California, Santa Cruz published an astronomical break-through discovery in Science, the premier journal for all science on November 10, 2011.

The Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce held their 113th Annual Meeting recently. Pierre Masuy, Plant Manager, OMYA, Inc.’s Florence Verpol Plant was named the 2011 Business Person of the Year. In his remarks RRCC EVP/CEO Tom Donahue noted the importance of the OMYA facility. The plant is the third largest in OMYA’s worldwide system, employing a staff of 175 workers.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Bess Brackett has been named president of the Board of Directors of the prestigious Clinical Orthopaedic Society. One of two female orthopedic surgeons at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, she is the first woman president of The Clinical Orthopaedic Society in its nearly 100-year history. The society celebrates its centennial next year in Chicago.
