The National Geographic Society has selected University of Vermont scientist Saleem Ali as an "Emerging Explorer" for 2010. He will be featured in the June edition of National Geographic magazine.

The board of directors of the Burlington law firm of Paul Frank + Collins P.C. are pleased to announce their unanimous election of S. Crocker Bennett, II to serve as firm President and CEO, effective June 7, 2010. Mr. Bennett will also serve as chairman of the firm’s Executive Management Committee where he has served as Senior Vice-President since 2002.

NRG Systems, Inc., manufacturer of wind measurement equipment, announces the promotion of Essex Junction resident Paul Dawson to the position of global sales manager. Dawson joined NRG Systems in the summer of 2008 as a sales account manager for North American markets.

Stafford Technical Center inducted seven students into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) on May 6, 2010 during a candlelight ceremony in the Dollhouse Restaurant. The mission of NTHS is to honor outstanding student achievement in career and technical education, promote educational excellence, and help to create strong partnerships with business and industry.

Stephen Smith, an Architectural Engineering Technology student from Springfield, VT has been awarded the New York State Engineering Technology Association’s 2010 Scholarship Award.

A Vermont electrician recently earned the renewable energy industry’s preeminent certification for solar electric installers. Matthew Murphy, 28, is now certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), an organization that implements voluntary credentialing and certification programs for green energy practitioners.

The ninth annual Rose Black Nursing Excellence Awards at Central Vermont Medical Center were presented this year to three women who provide their patients with superior nursing care. Dr. Percy Black, Rose Black’s son, welcomed everyone and gave thanks to today’s award recipients and all of the nurses at CVMC, on behalf of his mother and the Black family.

Helen Labun Jordan has been selected as Program Director of e-Vermont, the Community Broadband Project. This new two-year initiative will help rural Vermont towns take full advantage of the Internet to address a wide variety of local needs including economic development, school innovation, job creation, downtown marketing, community engagement, and e-commerce.

Allen J. Hinkle, M.D., who has developed acclaimed medical quality and cost management programs for several of the region’s largest and most respected health plans, has joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont as it Chief Medical Director. Dr. Hinkle has responsibility for the Plan’s Medical Services Division, and will lead its overall medical cost management programs.
