Stephen Smith, an Architectural Engineering Technology student from Springfield, VT has been awarded the New York State Engineering Technology Association’s 2010 Scholarship Award.
The New York State Engineering Technology Association is an organization of faculty representing 41 colleges, including Vermont Tech. Each year scholarship nominations are solicited from faculty members of the organization based on a student’s service, scholarship, and leadership. This year, eight scholarships were awarded at the spring conference in Buffalo, NY.
Architectural Engineering Technology Professor Scott Sabol nominated Stephen based on his outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievement. During his three years at Vermont Tech Smith has been elected president of ASHRAE; president of Tau Alpha Pi, a national engineering technology honor society; he has served the college as a tutor and member of the college advising committee; as a resident assistant and presenter to the state-wide Champlain Valley chapter of ASHRAE. He has also mastered the Architectural Engineering concepts of electrical/lighting, HVAC, and structural.
This spring, Smith was appointed to Vermont Tech’s presidential search committee, which will be helping to select the college’s next president.
