New safety officer has eyes on Quality and Patient Safety at North Country Hospital

“What is the Northeast Kingdom?” That was one of the questions Carol Martin asked when a job recruiter contacted her in Minneapolis, Minnesota, asking her if she’d consider interviewing for a position as the Quality/Patient Safety Officer at North Country Hospital in Newport located in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. She flew to Vermont in January to interview for the position.

St. Michael’s Professor named an IAS Benjamin Meaker visiting professor at the University of Bristol, UK

Dr. Nathaniel G. Lew, Saint Michael's College associate professor of music, has been awarded an IAS Benjamiin Meaker Visiting Professorship at the University of Bristol, in the United Kingdom, for April to June 2012. IAS is the Institute for Advanced Studies at Bristol.

Professor Lew is the new artistic director of the well-known Vermont a capella singing group “Counterpoint,” and director of the Saint Michael's College Chorale. This award allows him to complete a book to be titled A Tonic to the Nation: Making English Music in the Festival of Britain.

Ledyard National Bank promotes two employees

Ledyard National Bank is pleased to announce the promotion of two long time employees.

Betty Benson, Central Operations Officer, has been promoted to Vice President. She began her Ledyard career in February, 1997, in its Operations group. She steadily accepted new and varied responsibilities and eventually was promoted to manager of the department. She is responsible for overseeing the central operations functions, wire transfer processing, item processing and loan servicing. She supervises a staff of six full time employees.

Newest jazzercise instructors to teach local dance-fitness classes

Keri Evert, Carol Starr, and Deb Stuart, newly certified Jazzercise instructor’s, have begun instructing classes at Jazzercise fitness in Colchester, Vermont. All three instructor’s earned the right to teach Jazzercise by completing an intense two -day workshop and performing a letter-perfect audition. Becoming a Jazzercise instructor requires dedication and thorough training.

Student documentary film wins national prize

Norwich University’s student-produced documentary film, "The War at Home," has taken National First Place in the Society of Professional Journalists' 2010 "Mark of Excellence Awards in the category of Television In-Depth Reporting."

Norwich was awarded First Place in Region 1 on April 9 at Brown University and then went on to compete against the other 11 Regional Winners.

The awards will be presented on September 25 at the Society of Professional Journalists' 2011 National Convention in New Orleans.

Sean Ashford joins SymQuest’s Sales Administration Team
