SVC Provost Al DeCiccio Receives Red Sox’s Good Citizenship/Civil Service Award for Work in Education

As part of the Boston Red Sox’s “Celebrating Service” month of July, Southern Vermont College (SVC) Provost Al DeCiccio was recognized by the team as the civil servant of the game for his work in education on Friday night prior to a divisional showdown with the New York Yankees.

Dr. Mariko Silver appointed 10th president of Bennington College

Dr. Mariko Silver has been selected as the 10th president of Bennington College. A leading educational, public policy, and international strategist, she has held prominent roles at Columbia University, at Arizona State University, in the administration of Arizona’s governor Janet Napolitano, and in the Obama administration. She will succeed Elizabeth Coleman, Bennington’s president for 25 years, who retires this month.

William C. “Bill” Mount named to New York Life’s executive council

Bill Mount has been named a member of the 2013 Executive Council of New York Life Insurance Company. Members of the Executive Council are among the most successful of New York Life’s elite sales force of 11,900 licensed agents.

Department of Vermont Health access names Dr. Thomas Simpatico Chief Medical Officer

The Department of Vermont Health Access (DVHA) announced today that Thomas A. Simpatico, M.D. has been named Chief Medical Officer. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Simpatico will provide strategic medical leadership related to the Department’s clinical policies and practices and serve as a liaison for the Department to health care providers and other State partners. He will also play a key role in ensuring that Vermonters receiving health coverage through Vermont’s public health coverage program receive necessary care consistent with the best available clinical guidelines.

Saint Michael’s Fire Squad Captain & 2013 graduate from Minnetonka, Minn., named Saint Michael's Admission Counselor

Andrew Virnig, captain of the renowned Saint Michael’s Fire Squad and a 2013 graduate of the college, was named Saint Michael's College Admission Counselor. He began work in mid-July, and resides in Essex Junction.

“I was attracted to this job for the same reason I was attracted to the college as a student—Saint Michael’s helped me step out of my shell and become a leader,” Virnig said. “I want to give that experience to future students, help them find the right fit, which for me was Saint Michael's College.”
