Vermont State Employees’ Association elects Shelley Martin to be new president

State employees belonging to the Vermont State Employees’ Association (VSEA) have elected long-time union activist Shelley Martin to lead VSEA forward in the next two years. Martin is a 13-year state employee who works for the Department of Environmental Conservation in Montpelier. Prior to being elected President, Martin served four years as VSEA First Vice President. She also serves—and has served—on a host of VSEA committees, including the union’s Legislative, Membership Recruitment, Special Events and Personnel committees.

Bread Loaf Corporation welcomes architect David Evancho

Bread Loaf Corporation, a Vermont firm of architects, planners, and builders is pleased to announce David Evancho has joined our Architect Department as an Architectural Designer. David holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute. He received his Masters of Architecture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012.

David initially worked on a team to prepare the concept design proposal for the successful Middlebury Town Offices bid. He is currently working on the production of design documents, for the UVM Alumni House project.

Bread Loaf Corporation welcomes architect Tom Karlhuber

Bread Loaf Corporation, a Vermont firm of architects, planners, and builders is pleased to announce Tom Karlhuber has joined our Architectural Department as a Project Architect. Tom holds a Master of Architecture Degree from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Architecture with a Planning/Environmental Issues minor from the University of Virginia.

In Tom’s new position at Bread Loaf Corporation he will be managing production of documents for the new Science, Technology & Innovation Center at Landmark College in Putney, Vt.

Knit In at Gifford Medical

Each year members of the Gifford Medical Center Auxiliary knit hats and mittens for local school children in need. This year Auxiliary members decided to have some extra fun with their knitting by gathering with Menig Extended Care Facility nursing home residents for a weekly “Knit In.” On Thursday the group met at Menig in Randolph for a second time, and while fingers worked so did minds and mouths. There was reminiscing, sharing of techniques, talk of family and friends, and plenty of discussion on where to get great deals on yarn. The group plans to gather as long as it’s fun.

Professor Robert E. Manning named first Steven Rubenstein Professor

Professor Robert E. Manning has been named the first Steven Rubenstein Professor for Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.

The three-year appointment in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources will enable Professor Manning to devote a significant amount of his time over the next three years to several projects that will advance the school’s interdisciplinary programs and extend his academic research, writing and teaching.
