A national quality review organization has awarded Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (BCBSVT) its highest level of accreditation for both its managed care and preferred provider organization (PPO) product lines, the company announced today.
The awards position BCBSVT as the only health plan serving Vermont that has received the highest level of accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for both managed care and PPO products. NCQA is an independent, non-profit organization that assesses and reports on the quality of the nations managed care plans. Accreditation status -- the highest possible level -- is based on a voluntary review of how a health plan ensures that its members are receiving high quality care.

Via Cheese To Buy Lucille Farms
Swanton Vermont&Via Cheese, LLC announced today that it has agreed to buy the assets of Lucille Farms, a Swanton based manufacturer of mozzarella cheese which ceased operations in October of 2005. Via intends to restart the plant in October of this year and plans to make mozzarella and other Italian cheeses at the facility. Via is a sister company of Franklin Foods, which annually makes approximately 25,000,000 lbs of cream cheese products in its plant located in Enosburg Falls, Vermont.

Governor Appoints Judge Paul Hudson
Chair of Human Services Board

Montpelier, VT – Today, Governor Jim Douglas
announced that the Honorable Paul F. Hudson has been appointed Chair of the
Human Services Board. Judge Hudson is a resident of Springfield and served as a Vermont District
Court Judge from December 1979 until his retirement in January 2003.

“Judge
Hudson’s acceptance of this appointment reflects his continuing
commitment to public service – both to his community and his
state,” said Governor Douglas. “His community service and his
diverse and extensive law background make him uniquely qualified to chair this
important panel.”

Prior to his appointment
as a Vermont District Court Judge, Hudson
served as Chief of the Vermont Attorney General’s Criminal Division from

Program Expected to Save Vermont $4 Million This Year

Montpelier, Vt. – Governor Jim Douglas announced today that
Vermont, Iowa and Maine have formed a first in the nation, state administered
prescription drug purchasing pool, that is expected to save Vermont approximately
$4 million this year. On July
20, 2006 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved
the operation of the Sovereign States Drug Consortium (SSDC), collaboration
between Vermont, Maine
and Iowa.

Governor Douglas stated, “Medicaid drug costs
have grown dramatically in recent years. States have control over what we cover
under Medicaid and how much we pay for it. Medicaid programs have been

Burlington,
Vt. — Governor Jim Douglas
joined with Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) today to announce the
Agency’s new $10 million mortgage loan initiative to help consumers find affordable
homeownership, and the Agency also rolled out two new insurance products being
provided to VHFA borrowers by the Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation
(MGIC).

The announcements were made at a press conference attended by the

Dugan named Deputy Commissioner of
Housing and Community Affairs

MONTPELIER, Vt. – The
head of the state’s Community Development Program has been named Deputy
Commissioner of the Department of Housing and Community Affairs.

Molly Dugan, who has worked in the
department since 2001, will take over the position on August 21, said DHCA
Commissioner John Hall.

“I am very excited to have
Molly moving into this position,” Hall said. “She has been an
outstanding leader at the Vermont Community Development Program, and I’m
sure that she will continue her success as deputy of the entire
department.”

Dugan, 38, of Richmond,
is a 1990 graduate of the University
of New Hampshire, where
she majored in Resource Economics and Political Science. She received her
Master of Public Administration from the University of Vermont
in 1996.

Williston, VT - Child Care Resource of Williston was recently awarded full accreditation by the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) of the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA). The Chittenden County agency was recognized at a regional NACCRRA meeting in Albany, NY and again in Washington, DC. QAP is a national, voluntary, quality assurance system for community child care resource and referral programs. The program is designed to ensure that families across the country have access to consistent, high-quality consumer education and referral services. Kathie Mercia, Director of Subsidy, Resource and Referral, headed up the two-year accreditation process.

BURLINGTON, Vt.--Champlain College has appointed Laryn D. Runco, JD, as the Colleges new admission director. Runco comes to Champlain with 13 years of experience directing admission and enrollment at John Carroll University in Ohio. She also has a background in marketing, human resources and business development.
At John Carroll University, Runco led admission efforts to increase quality and diversity in enrollment. While directing a successful enrollment management operation, she formulated strategic plans, managed a staff of 11 and oversaw a budget in excess of $1 million. She earned a bachelors degree in Spanish and minor in economics from John Carroll University, and she earned a law degree from the University of Akron.
