Northern Enterprises is pleased to announce the commencement of the North-Link network on Friday, May 4th, 1:45 pm at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital.
Senator Patrick Leahy and other dignitaries will be on hand to formally launch construction of this fiber optic high-speed network.
The fiber optic system will serve as a backbone for broadband access throughout the Northeast Kingdom where major areas have been sidelined from high speed internet access.
North-Link is a $ 10 million fiber optic network designed by Northern Enterprises, in cooperation with the Economic Development Council of Northern Vermont, that encompasses eight Vermont Counties, three States and two countries.
The network is a public-private partnership with financial backing coming from the federal government, local businesses and communities.

BURLINGTON, Vt.--Champlain College's Workforce Development Center has formed a partnership with EpikOne, an online strategy firm in Williston, Vt., and with the support of Google Analytics will deliver training in Web analytics, social networking and online visibility and marketing.
An "Online Marketing Boot Camp" will be offered June 11-14 on the Champlain College campus in the S.D. Ireland Center for Global Business & Technology.
Participants can register for two-hour, four-hour or daylong sessions, or the entire four days of boot camp.
Training times include morning, afternoon and "evening encore" sessions. Individual sessions and customized packages are also available.
The boot camp is designed to help companies doing business on the Web optimize their Internet presence and move their sales potential to the next level.

Guy Boyer Named to Chair Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont Board of Directors.
Berlin - Guy Boyer has been elected to chair the Board of Directors of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont.
Mr. Boyer joined the BCBSVT Board in 2003 and will succeed Deborah Granquist as its chair. Ms. Granquist, who has served as chair since 2004, remains on the Board.
Mr. Boyer is president and chief executive officer of Factory Point Bank in Manchester Center, Vermont. He is past president of the Schuylkill (PA) Chamber of Commerce and the Schuylkill County Bankers Association.
He has served on the Boards of the United Way, the Economic Development Council, the Boy Scouts of America, Burr and Burton Academy, and currently serves on the Board of Maple Street School and the Vermont Bankers Association. A certified public accountant, he is a member of the American Institute of CPAs.

Mary Powell Named to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont Board of Directors.
Berlin - Mary G. Powell has been elected to the Board of Directors of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont. Ms. Powell was elected at the company's recent annual meeting.
Ms. Powell is senior vice president and chief operating officer for Green Mountain Power Corp. She was formerly senior vice president of community banking for KeyBank in Vermont. Prior to moving to Vermont from New York, she worked for the Reserve Fund as its associate director of operations. She also serves as a trustee of the Vermont Land Trust and Champlain College, and was appointed by the governor as co-chair of Building Bright Futures. She also serves as the co-chair of the Education Cost and Quality Task Force for the Vermont Business Roundtable.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont is the state's only Vermont-based health insurer and is the largest private health plan in Vermont.

Champlain College has leased property on Rue Sherbrooke in Montreal, Quebec, to operate a study-abroad campus in the heart of the city. Starting in Fall 2007, students can choose to spend a full academic semester in Montreal taking Champlain College courses.
Champlain's campus is believed to be the first American campus in Montreal. Ten Champlain College courses will be offered there this fall--the same courses that are offered on campus in Burlington. Students will pay the same tuition and residence hall rates as they would in Vermont.
Study-abroad applications for fall have been streaming in and the College is now working with an architect to renovate the brownstone building that will house Champlain's academic center.

of Economic Development Releases Comprehensive Study of Young People to
Determine What Draws Them to Vermont

MONTPELIER "Young
workers want to live in Vermont,
but the state must create high-paying jobs and affordable housing for them" and let them know about it.

Those were among the findings of a comprehensive study of young people
designed to find out what will make the next generation of Vermonters want to
live and work here.

"This report tells us that young people with a connection to Vermont -- including a very significant majority of
those who come to attend college -- also consider Vermont as a potentially attractive place to
live and work," said Vermont Commissioner of Economic Development Mike
Quinn.

All Customers asked to call CVPS if power is still out Friday morning
CVPS is asking that all customers who are still without power as of Friday morning to contact the company at 1-800-451-2877.
Due to damage in some areas that are affecting only single and small groups of customers, some without power may not be listed in the outage management system. As restoration efforts near a close, the company wants to assure that no one is left without power.
If customers see that others in their neighborhood have power, but they do not, CVPS asks that those customers switch their breakers off and on to assure the problem is not localized inside their home.
The company also reminded customers that while service lines or overhead wires that run from a pole to a house or business are the utility's responsibility, the service cable that runs along the side of the house is the customer's responsibility.
