Vermont Business Magazine Forty-five Vermonters who have taken employer-sponsored Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) classes, in partnership with the Community College of Vermont (CCV), have earned a combined total of more than 1,100 college credits. APL is part of CCV’s Prior Learning Assessment program, which provides college credit for knowledge gained in the workplace, in the military, or through volunteerism.
CCV’s director of prior learning assessment, Melissa DeBlois, says the program offers employees a path to reaching their full professional potential. “Whether they need a degree, certificate, or a certain number of credits to continue their professional development and growth within an organization, prior learning assessment can help.”

Vermont Business Magazine Dousevicz Inc and Heidenberg Properties Group have joined forces to develop an independent, assisted and memory care housing community adjacent to the Berlin Mall. Following the Town of Berlin Development Review Board’s approval of zoning applications for 98 units of senior housing—the first development of its kind in Berlin—the project has moved to the next key phase, with Dousevicz Inc submitting an application for an Act 250 permit.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Economic Development Authority (VEDA) approved over $15 million in financing for Vermont businesses over the last quarter, from April 1 and June 30, 2019. The approved financing will support the growth and development of businesses and farms across the state, create new jobs, and improve Vermont's renewable energy infrastructure.
"A significant portion of our loan activity this quarter supported small businesses. This is a key sector for job creation and enhancing economic vitality in our state", said Cassie Polhemus, Chief Executive Officer at VEDA. "We also approved several projects to help revitalize our downtowns, and we continue to see steady demand for renewable energy projects and farmers who are diversifying their revenue streams."

Vermont Business Magazine Lactalis Group, based in Laval, France, and the largest dairy products firm in the world, has acquired Brattleboro's Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy, the US yogurt business of Ehrmann AG, the Bavaria, Germany-based dairy company. The acquisition was completed on July 5 and announced today. Established in 2009, Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy has two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities that employ 250 people in Brattleboro, Vermont and Casa Grande, Arizona and manufactures and distributes yogurt and other dairy products under the Green Mountain Creamery and Liebe brands. It also features a strong private label business.

Vermont Business Magazine The personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2019’s Best & Worst States to Start a Business. Vermont ranked 43rd, as the Northeast in general and New England in particular ranked low compared to states South and West. Vermont ranked low in the sub-categories of growth in new startups, length of work week and dead last in workforce availability. Vermont ranked high in state incentives.

Airbnb has already reached tax agreements with the State of Vermont & Burlington, and has collected more than $8 million in tax revenue for the state
Vermont Business Magazine Airbnb has finalized a new tax agreement with the City of Rutland, which will allow the company to collect and remit room rental tax on behalf of hosts who have listings across the city. With this new agreement, Airbnb is now collecting and remitting taxes in Vermont statewide, as well as in Burlington and the City of Rutland.
Airbnb has been collecting and remitting hotel-type taxes in Vermont since 2016, when it began collecting and remitting to the State. In total, Airbnb has collected and remitted more than $8 million in taxes in Vermont.

Vermont Business Magazine The Community Bank NA New England branches recently donated $15,000 to The DREAM Program to support its mentoring program. To present the donation, 18 team members joined members of the DREAM Program at Camp DREAM for a work day. The team helped paint, clear trails and get the camp ready for children who will be attending the camp this summer.
