Vermont Business Magazine Vermont’s Killington Resort announced today a matching donation of $100,000, to Pico Ski Education Foundation (PSEF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining an affordable organized ski racing program for local families and athletes. The gift is part of Killington Resort’s Play Forever commitment to protect the environment and enable participation, in that the funds will help provide access to ski racing for local youth and support operations of the race program.

Dartmouth College The most ambitious women's fundraising effort in Dartmouth history has secured $25 million to restore the heart of the College's undergraduate academic experience—Dartmouth Hall. Through the generosity of more than 1,700 alumnae and others in the Dartmouth community making gifts through The Call to Lead campaign, Dartmouth Hall will be renovated to meet the needs of future generations of students.

Vermont Business Magazine Attorney General Donovan announced today that his office has reviewed the officer-involved shooting incident that occurred on October 8, 2019, in Rutland, Vermont. The Attorney General’s Office is declining to prosecute Rutland City Police Department Sergeant Kenneth Mosher, Sergeant Adam Lucia, and Corporal Elias Anderson, and Rutland Town Police Deputy Chief Ted Washburn for charges related to the fatal shooting of Christopher G. Louras. Based on the facts and circumstances, and consistent with Vermont law, the Attorney General’s Office has concluded that the actions of the officers were justified. In reaching this decision, the Office reviewed all the materials provided by the Vermont State Police, who conducted the investigation.

Vermont Business Magazine A new poll conducted by Public Policy Polling and commissioned by the Marijuana Policy Project found that an overwhelming 76% of Vermont residents support allowing adults 21 and over to purchase cannabis from regulated, tax-paying small businesses. These results are significant as they come days before the Vermont House is expected to vote on S. 54, a bill that would legalize, regulate, and tax cannabis sales in the state.

Vermont Business Magazine In 2018 Vermont ranked 19th in the number of drunk driving-related fatalities. But Vermont also was one of a handful of states that saw an increase in that number, according to a study based on federal statistics and presented by SaferAmerica. New Hampshire was one spot below Vermont, but had the biggest increase in the nation by nearly 75 percent.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd through 8th grade to be joyful, healthy and confident. Vermont Business Magazine OneCare Vermont has partnered with Cigna’s Community Ambassador Fellowship program to reduce social isolation and build resiliency for older Vermonters. Alison Hemphill, a Senior Account Manager in Cigna’s Burlington office, was selected as a 2020 Fellow and will work with OneCare Vermont’s primary prevention team to launch a “Sheds” initiative as they aim to improve social connections for older residents and create a space where members can contribute their skills to the needs of the broader community.
