Vermont Business Magazine Funding is now available for Vermont artists and arts organizations through the Vermont Arts Endowment Fund and the Concert Artists Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation. The Vermont Arts Endowment Fund awards grants up to $5,000 to support the creation and presentation of new work by Vermont artists and arts organizations. Grants are typically made in the fields of dance; theater; music composition and performance; creative writing, including poetry, short stories, novels, and plays; sculpture; painting; photography; and film, although work in other media may also be eligible. The Concert Artists Fund awards grants up to $10,000 on a two-year funding cycle to support organizations that present performances of classical music in Chittenden County.

Vermont Business Magazine Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) on Wednesday released the bipartisan, bicameral, coronavirus emergency supplemental Appropriations bill. Leahy was a lead negotiator in the $7.8 billion package to address the expanding public health crisis as the coronavirus continues to spread across the United States and the globe. The agreement also includes a $500 million authorization for a telehealth program over a 10-year period.

Vermont Business Magazine University of Vermont Provost and Senior Vice President Patricia Prelock today announced the appointment of Leslie V Parise, PhD, as dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Parise has built a long and successful career at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), where she rose through the ranks from assistant to full professor. For the past decade, Parise has served as the chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, which currently ranks fifth in the United States for National Institutes of Health-funded biochemistry departments.

The virus is believed to have originated in Wuhan, the capital city of China’s Hubei province, and has since spread to several countries, including the US. People who have traveled recently to countries known to be affected by the spread of this virus, such as China, Italy, and Iran, are asked to monitor their health closely, as people may be asymptomatic (showing no signs of illness) for up to 14 days following exposure to the virus. If they do begin to show symptoms, they should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
