Vermont Business Magazine Today, Mayor Miro Weinberger officially launched the first-ever Community & Economic Development Office Licensed Nursing Assistant Workforce Training program ‘Moving On, Moving Up’ at a press conference at Cathedral Square Assisted Living. The year-long project encompasses 10 weeks of specialized training for five groups, a total of 35 students. Eligible trainees who complete this free training, and successfully pass the state licensing test, will apply for and receive the Vermont State Board of Nursing licensure as a Licensed Nursing Assistant.

Senator Patrick Leahy It is urgent that Congress pass a security supplemental to address the needs of the National Guard and the Capitol Police resulting from the fallout of the January 6 insurrection. As I have warned, if we do not act, Capitol Police projects they will deplete salaries funds sometime in August, and they already exceeded their projected overtime because of activities resulting from January 6th in late June. The National Guard will also be forced to cut training sometime in August as well.

Vermont Business Magazine The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont stated that Scott Remick, 46, of Bristol, Vermont, was charged by criminal complaint in United States District Court in Burlington, Vermont, with one count of possession of child pornography. Remick made his initial appearance to answer the complaint on July 8, 2021, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle. On July 9, 2021, Judge Doyle denied the government’s motion for detention and ordered Remick released on conditions.

Vermont Business Magazine The Attorney General’s Office today announced that it has filed a motion in its criminal case pending against Max Misch of Bennington, Vermont, asking the Court to impose additional conditions of release. Misch, who has repeatedly violated his conditions of release, was charged on Tuesday with two counts of felony domestic violence and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence by the Bennington County State’s Attorney’s Office.

He will also continue to host The Frequency, VPR’s morning news podcast, with Anna Van Dine.

Vermont Business Magazine President Biden has appointed Governor Phil Scott to the President’s Council of Governors for a two-year term, as the White House announced today. The bipartisan Council was established by Section 1822 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 and implemented by Presidential Executive Order 13528 in 2010. It includes up to 10 governors who work with federal officials to address issues relating to national security, homeland defense, disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and the National Guard.

Vermont Department of Public Safety On July 01, 2021 the Thetford Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle fire. Once the fire was extinguished, the fire chief contacted the VT Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU) for assistance in the examination of the vehicle. The origin and cause examination revealed that the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV was parked in the owner’s driveway and was plugged in and charging when the fire was discovered. The origin of the fire was within the passenger compartment in the area of the back seat. The cause of the fire appears to be an undetermined electrical system failure.

Attorney General TJ Donovan I do not support the proposed Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan because it does not sufficiently hold the Sackler family accountable. The Sacklers are the founders and owners of Purdue Pharma, which sparked and fueled the opioid crisis. Through this bankruptcy plan, the Sacklers are leveraging their enormous wealth to obtain the protection of the bankruptcy court by having the court extinguish the states’ claims against the Sacklers.

Vermont Business Magazine MENTOR Vermont has announced the start of the 2021-2022 Vermont Mentoring Grants application process. These annual grants are designed to support new and existing youth mentoring programs in Vermont that match adult volunteers as mentors for youth mentees (ages 5-22) in long-term, one-to-one, quality-based mentoring relationships.
