Vermont Business Magazine The Delta Dental Institute recently released its 2020 Community Impact Report, highlighting the investments the Delta Dental companies and their foundations made in 2020 to advance oral health, address health inequities and disparities and respond to COVID-19. Delta Dental Plan of Vermont donated $286,821 to 27 Vermont communities, impacting the lives of 5,729 individuals in Vermont.
Vermont Business Magazine To kick off World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) and National Breastfeeding Month (August), Mamava, the category creator of freestanding lactation spaces, announces a Lactation Pod Giveaway contest. One winner will receive a Mamava Lactation Pod (maximum value: $25,700), plus lactation room supplies from Medela (valuing $1,500). Organizations in need of a lactation space are invited to submit a simple nomination form. Finalists will be selected based on mission, need, and potential for breastfeeding impact. The final winner will be decided by the community via online voting.
Vermont Business Magazine A new grant program will offer eligible Vermonters the chance to obtain a college degree tuition free. Yes, really. The grant, called 802Opportunity, pays for up to two years of free tuition to the Community College of Vermont. Any Vermonter with a family Adjusted Gross Income of less than $50,000 per year can qualify.
Vermont Business Magazine A pioneer in entrepreneurial education for women, Mercy Connections’ Women’s Small Business Program was the first—and remains the only—community-based program in Vermont focused on launching women-owned and operated businesses. The Fall 2021 semester of “Start Up” will run from August 24th through mid-December with classes being held online via Zoom. The online format provides access to women from all over Vermont, and beyond.

Instead, the brain relies on the hundreds of miles of blood vessels within it to supply fresh energy via the blood. Yet, how the brain expresses a need for more energy during increased activity and then directs its blood supply to specific hot spots was, until now, poorly understood. In a new paper, published today in Science Advances, University of Vermont and University of Maryland researchers have shown how the brain communicates to blood vessels when in need of energy.

Vermont Business Magazine For those struggling with anxiety or depression related to pregnancy, Gifford Health Care is here to help. Every Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., the conference room at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, hosts the Pregnancy and Post-Partum Support Group.
Led by licensed mental health counselors Erica Schleif and Sarah Roberts, the group learns how to manage those emotions and engage with others going through similar experiences. Each session offers a brief check-in followed by a discussion on the weekly topic.
“We come across women on a daily basis, who don’t know where to go or where to turn to when they get feelings of depression and sadness,” Schleif said. “Our job, our goal, is to make sure these women have the love, care and support they need and a better understanding of why they feel this way and how they can cope with a new mindset.”
Department of Vermont Health Access The second virtual Town Hall will focus on how the American Rescue Plan Act helps Vermonters to newly access more affordable health insurance, highlighting the special benefits for Vermonters who received unemployment compensation in 2021. Wednesday, July 28 – noon to 1 pm.
The Vermont State Police identified the victims in this incident as Lawrence Bouchard and Cheryl McLellan of Glover VT. The investigation remains ongoing and does not appear suspicious at this time.
