Leonine Public Affairs The Senate Committee on Appropriations finalized their work on the FY2022 Budget Adjustment Act (BAA) this week. The FY2022 BAA appropriates more than $350 million in new funding, which is significantly more than prior mid-fiscal year adjustment acts. This largess is due in part to the nearly half billion dollars in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding that is available to continue to address the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

by Representative Heidi Scheuermann (R-Stowe) I am pleased to report that the Vermont House of Representatives returned in person, fully, this week. There is one adjustment we made to our Permanent House Rules in order to ensure the health and safety of all as COVID continues, and that is if a member has COVID or has a “direct COVID-19 related circumstance,” they may participate and vote remotely. Otherwise, our House Rules remain in place. That is that all members must be in-person in the House to participate and to vote, unless they have COVID themselves, or have a “direct COVID-19-related circumstance.”

Vermont Business Magazine This morning at approximately 0340 hours, the Burlington Fire Department was dispatched to a medical call on South Willard Street. As units departed Central Fire Station, they noticed a fire in the building located at 199 King Street about a block away. First arriving companies encountered significant fire on the third floor extending into the attic space. Burlington firefighters initiated an aggressive but coordinated fire attack and search of the building. Due to the volume of fire and the structural integrity of the building, units could not search the third floor, and the incident commander quickly transitioned to a defensive firefighting operation, allowing only exterior fire suppression efforts to occur. This building was the site of a fatal fire on January 9, 2021, and had not been repaired.
