Vermont Business Magazine Vermonters and visitors to the state alike have a new way to charge up when they drive their electric vehicles. SunCommon announces the installation of the fastest solar-powered, EV chargers in the state at a new charging station located in South Burlington. Previously, the EV charging station that SunCommon installed at Mad River Taste Place in Waitsfield in 2020 held the distinction as the fastest in Vermont. The new charging station, which includes two DC (or direct current) fast chargers provided by ChargePoint, sits just off Exit 14E of Interstate 89, at the corner or Dorset Street in the common parking lot shared by CVS, Homewood Suites, Peoples United Bank, and is next to the University Mall.

Vermont Business Magazine Today, VSECU announced the five non-profits to receive funding through its annual member-directed giving program, We Care 2. The VSECU Giving Committee selected this year’s five We Care 2 finalists: COVER Home Repair, Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT), Pathways Vermont, Prevent Child Abuse Vermont (PCA), and the Vermont Recovery Network (which recently started doing business as Recovery Partners of Vermont).

Vermont Business Magazine The nonprofit affordable-housing provider Cathedral Square has received a $1,750 gift from Titus Insurance Agency and Co-operative Insurance Companies as part of the Co-op’s 2022 Community Grants program. The grant will be used to enhance and maintain the therapeutic gardens at Memory Care at Allen Brook in Williston, a Cathedral Square residential community in Williston for Vermonters with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The gardens include a closed-loop walking path and a gazebo and are specially designed to promote calm and tranquility.

Vermont Business Magazine CSC is proud to accept the US Sailing Jim Kilroy Outstanding Outreach and Inclusion Award, one given annually to recognize programs that have made notable contributions to promote inclusivity within the sport of sailing. In the Spring of 2021 the Community Sailing Center (CSC) launched the Sailing Diversity Access Initiative, a program designed to increase access to lake-based recreation for children who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC).

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Medical Center Board of Trustees has added Shelburne resident and attorney Meg O’Donnell to its Board of Trustees. O’Donnell is active with several local organizations working to improve the health and wellbeing of people in the region. O’Donnell has extensive teaching experience in health policy, including as an adjunct professor at the University of Vermont, a “bridge course” instructor for the UVM Larner College of Medicine, and a facilitator for the Snelling Center for Government’s Vermont Leadership Institute. She currently serves as president of the Howard Center Board of Trustees and is secretary of the New England Federal Credit Union board.

Vermont Business Magazine Clinical professionals from Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s (SVMC) Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation Departments gathered for a photo to celebrate Cardiac Rehabilitation Week, held the week of Valentine’s Day each year. The observance was initiated by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) to help generate attention for the improvement cardiac rehabilitation can make in the lives of those diagnosed with heart disease or dysfunction. SVMC’s Cardiac Rehabilitation is accredited by the AACVPR.

by Timothy McQuiston, Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Health today is reporting 120 cases of COVID-19 for Sunday. Cases have been under 300 since last Friday. The VDH today also reported eight additional deaths from last Friday for 574 statewide, with three in the 60-69 age group, one in the 70-79 age group and four in the 80+ age group. Dr Levine said that most of the recent deaths are in people who are elderly and either not fully vaccinated or have underlying health conditions. Serious health effects, he said, are typical of the usual seasonal flu season, though the typical flu effects are much lower the last two winters.

Vermont Business Magazine State Auditor Doug Hoffer released a new audit today of Vermont’s Dam Safety Program. Housed within the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Dam Safety Program is responsible for overseeing more than 1,000 known dams across Vermont. The audit found that the 10 dams in poor condition that were selected for review, which included state-owned dams, lingered in poor condition, some for more than 18 years. While the Dam Safety Program recommended that dam owners make needed improvements, suggested timeframes were not provided to do so and follow-up didn’t occur until the next inspection of the dam, which in some cases was more than five years later.
