The Women Business Owners Network (WBON) will hold its 2nd annual spring conference for women business owners on April 30, 2003 at the Best Western Conference Center in South Burlington, VT. The theme is, “Spring into Action: Leading Your Business with Creativity.”
The conference will begin with on Friday at 11:00 am and run until 5:30 p.m. Registration fees are $39 for members, $54 for non-members, and $139 for new members (includes 1 year of dues).

The Vermont Chapter will receive a Continuing Publication Commendation from the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) for its monthly newsletter, Green Mountain Specifier. Christopher Eling, CSI, CDT, editor of the newsletter, will accept the award April 21, 2004 during the Opening General Session of The 48th Annual CSI Showä & Convention.
CSI presents a Continuing Publication Commendation to individuals, chapters, firms, or organizations for outstanding publications in areas related to the Institute. The Vermont Chapter nominated Eling and the Green Mountain Specifier for:
- Consistently providing the construction community with news from the chapter, region, and Institute

- Publishing technical and educational articles by members and industry experts

- Reviewing past, present and future chapter programs

- Recognizing new members

The career-oriented college is unveiling a rare, new bachelor’s degree in Electronic Game & Interactive Development. It’s the first degree of its kind in New England and starting this fall it will prepare students for careers in the fastest growing segment of the entertainment market.

Given annually by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the prestigious award honors the U.S. shareholder-owned and international members for outstanding contributions and advancement of the industry. A committee of national industry trade publication editors and a panel of past and current EEI chairmen select the finalists and ultimate winners. This year's award, the 45th, will be announced June 8 at EEI's annual convention in Orlando, Fla.

VCET to Collaborate With Business Incubator Network to Promote Economic
Development Statewide

Senator Patrick Leahy, Governor James Douglas, and University of Vermont
president Daniel Mark Fogel announced March 29, 2004, the launch of the Vermont Center for
Emerging Technologies, a multi-faceted initiative that will play a
crucial role in diversifying Vermont’s economy and boosting economic
development in the state.

Senator Leahy secured an appropriation of $1 million to help launch the
center, which will be located in Farrell Hall on the Trinity College
campus of the University of Vermont.

Career-oriented Champlain College in Burlington, Vt., is introducing new bachelor’s degree programs this fall in Broadcasting, Mass Communication, and Marketing--which offers concentrations in Advertising or Marketing Management. With Champlain’s existing programs in Public Relations, Professional Writing, and Multimedia & Graphic Design, the new programs establish a dynamic team of offerings in the communications area.
“The College has built a deep collection of programs,” said Nancy Kerr, director of the new Broadcasting and Mass Communication programs. “Champlain students will earn solid communication skills and they can choose to specialize in one of several exciting career fields.”

The weekly community newspaper, the County Courier, has chosen to use I AM Presentations’ new web content delivery and advertising solution service exclusively for its online version of its publication.
The website, theCountyCourier.com, will undergo an entire modernization of its appearance and back end technology, utilizing I AM Presentations’ proprietary software system. The reconstruction of the County Courier’s website will take several weeks, but when it is launched it will include many new technological advantages for both the newspapers’ readers and advertisers.

Lt. Governor Brian Dubie and State Treasurer Jeb Spaulding
jointly announced a plan to invest $48 million in state employee
pension funds in Vermont's "Green Valley" - an economic development sector
comprised of businesses dealing in environmental technologies, goods and
services.
"It's all about jobs and economic growth for our state in a dynamic new
direction," Dubie said, "and it's about devoting Vermont's youthful energy
and some of our resources towards making Earth a cleaner and healthier place
for everyone."
