Vermont Business Magazine The Department of Financial Regulation has been notified of a security breach that could affect more than seven thousand Vermonters. DFR provides this notice in advance of official notification from Genworth North America Corporation, on behalf of its affiliate insurance companies Genworth Life and Annuity Insurance Company, Genworth Life Insurance Company, and Genworth Life Insurance Company of New York. Currently, no indications exist of any threat of identity theft or fraud in relation to the event; however, certain personal information was exposed. 

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont’s Economic Services Division has extended the 10-day timeline for 3SquaresVT replacement benefits due to the catastrophic flooding. Recipients now have until August 9 to submit replacement requests for food loss and can receive up to one month of their allotted 3SquaresVT benefit (verification of loss is no longer required). 

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont residents who applied for assistance from FEMA for the severe storms and flooding, July 7, 2023, and continuing, will receive a determination letter from FEMA. It may say you are ineligible for assistance, but that is not a denial. It is important to read the letter carefully because it will include the amount of assistance FEMA may provide and information on the appropriate use of disaster assistance funds. The letter will also explain your application status and advise what you need to do to appeal an unfavorable decision.

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont Athletic Department announced Tuesday that Todd Woodcroft has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Men's Hockey at UVM, effective immediately. Assistant Coach Steve Wiedler was named interim head coach for the upcoming season. "The specific conduct leading to the investigation involved inappropriate text messages with a UVM student on multiple occasions that failed to maintain professional boundaries."

This event marked a triumphant return after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and garnered significant support from the local community, raising an impressive $10,000 for Howard Center. Organized by the Vermont Brewers Association (VBA), the festival has been a resounding success since its inception in 1991. With 37 Vermont breweries, 9 out-of-state and Canadian breweries, and over 200 beers to sample, this year's festival promises an unforgettable experience. Each week, DCF posts information about households in the General Assistance housing program on the department’s website.

Vermont Business Magazine FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell announced today that President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. made additional disaster assistance available to the state of Vermont to supplement state, local and tribal recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe flooding beginning on July 7, 2023, and continuing. The President authorized the federal cost-share for emergency protective measures to be increased from 75% to 100% for a 30-day period of the state’s choosing within the first 120 days from the start of the incident period. 

Vermont Business Magazine Following historic flooding that has occurred throughout Vermont, the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Dam Safety Program will be performing follow-up inspections in the coming days to identify dams that may have been impacted. The Dam Safety Program will be prioritizing inspection of dams that have the potential to impact life and property such as homes and roads. Inspections are being performed by trained engineers at no cost to dam owners. There are over 400 dams located within Vermont that impound enough water to pose a risk should the dam fail. A large number of those dams are owned by private individuals.
