Tyler Dumont of Dracut, Mass., a junior in Lyndon State College’s Electronic Journalism Arts program, has been nominated for three Emmy™ Awards by the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. An Emmy is the television industry’s most coveted peer-recognition symbol of distinction.

Dr. Karen Gross, President of Southern Vermont College, has announced
two important changes within the SVC Athletic Department effective today. Michael
McDonough has been promoted to full-time Director of Athletics and Dan Engelstad, until recently assistant basketball coach at the College of Holy Cross, has been named SVC’s head men’s basketball coach.

People’s United Bank has announced that Scott D. Carpenter has joined People’s United Bank as Senior Vice President, Director of Wealth Management and Private Banking in Vermont. As Director, Carpenter will oversee all aspects of wealth management and private banking operations. Carpenter succeeds Sylvia MacKinnon who recently announced her retirement.

Jack Russell, broker/owner of CENTURY 21 Jack Associates announced that Century 21 Real Estate LLC, franchisor of the world’s largest residential real estate sales organization recently recognized sales associate Lisa Meyer with the CENTURY 21 Quality Service Pinnacle Producer Award.

The New England Secondary School Consortium announced recipients of their first annual NESSC Champions awards recognizing seven leaders from across New England.
Receiving regional awards were:
• Tim Donovan, chancellor of the Vermont State College System; and
• Lou DiPalma, state senator from Rhode Island.

Martha Maksym, Executive Director of United Way of Chittenden County today announced that Alyson Platzer has joined the staff of United Way as the Neighbor Rides Coordinator.

Secretary of State Jim Condos has announced the appointment of Will Senning as the new Director of Elections and Campaign Finance for the office of the Secretary of State. Will replaces Kathy Scheele, who is retiring at the end of this month, after more than 13 years of dedicated service to this agency and to the state of Vermont.

Jeffrey J. Morse, president and chief executive officer of River Valley Credit Union, has been elected to serve as the new Chair of the Brattleboro Retreat’s Board of Trustees. Jeff has served on the Retreat’s board since 2009, and is past chair of the Finance Committee. His tenure as Board Chair will run through 2016.

The Vermont Natural Resources Council is pleased to announce that Mari Zagarins of Montpelier has joined the staff as Membership and Outreach Coordinator.

Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA), a national center for education in the arts, announced today the appointment of Terence Nance (Feature Films), Dan Schrecker (Animation & Visual Effects), and Tammy Marie Dudman (Animation), as founding faculty of its new film school. This unique film school joins a distinguished portfolio of fine arts graduate degree programs.

Ian Hommel has been named the executive chef at Maple Leaf Farm. Ian has been involved in the food industry as a culinary trained chef for over 20 years, and has worked in a variety of food venues, from five star restaurants and resorts to simply creating interesting foods at home and writing a food blog.

PEN New England announced the winners of their 2013 awards celebrating the best works of fiction, poetry and nonfiction by New England authors with University of Vermont faculty receiving the honor in two of the three categories.
