The tenth annual Rose Black Nursing Excellence Awards at Central Vermont Medical Center were presented to three women who provide their patients with superior nursing care. Dr. Percy Black, Rose Black’s son, welcomed everyone and gave thanks to today’s award recipients and all of the nurses at CVMC, on behalf of his mother and the Black family.

On May 3rd, the Community-University Partnerships and Service-Learning Office (CUPS) announced the recipients of its Engaged Scholarship Awards at the 7th Annual CUPS Recognition Reception. Nominations were judged on the quality of engaged scholarship demonstrated in courses between Spring 2010 and 2011 semesters.

The University of Vermont College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has named Rachel K. Johnson, PhD, RD, the inaugural Robert L. Bickford, Jr. Green and Gold Professor — the first endowed professorship in that college. Dr. Johnson has been a member of the college's faculty since 1991 and served as its dean from 2001 to 2008.

Since 2001, University Mall has awarded local students over $275,000 in scholarships courtesy of owners Bill Finard, Todd Finard, and Rob Hughes of Finard Properties LLC. Five area high school seniors will each soon receive $5,000 toward their first year of college.

Rick Milliken, General Manager of the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton has announced the promotion of David Goodman to the position of Controller.

He joined the hotel in 2001 as Staff Accountant and currently manages the financial aspects of the hotel and Trader Duke’s Restaurant including forecasting and budgeting.

Martin Wolf of Seventh Generation in Burlington, Vermont will be honored tomorrow in Boston’s Faneuil Hall as part of EPA’s annual Environmental Merit Awards for 2011.

She flew to Vermont in January to interview for the position.
